I love the look of the New canon G10. I might add it to my G collection. I have a G1, G2, G3 and a G5.My G1, I converted to only shoot Infrared.(my first attempt and it kind of broke) my G2 I successfully converted to infrared, but I don't like how it doesn't automatically rotate the vertical photos, so I am going to convert my G5 to infrared. Between the G3 and G5, the G5 is a dog. it's very grainy in comparison. The G3 is so much better. for Infrared the grain won't matter much as I won't be using it in low light anyways. I got to play with my friend's Canon SD1100IS today. It's a cute camera. Very similar to my canon sd800is.Mainly to me, the lens doesn't go down to 28mm. Not bad for only $180. i remember paying 300 bucks for my sd800IS. [more]

An interesting move for Sigma. They bought out the sensor maker Foveon. This makes alot of sense. it better integrates the chip to camera. Developing the sensor which makes the image in house moves Sigma higher up in relevancy.Sony develops their own chip(as well as sells it to others)Canon does their cmos. and Nikon followed suit. so really Sigma buying Foveon is a smart move.Olympus has Panasonic to lean on for their 4/3s system Pentax? well they can prabably rely on Samsung once Samsung comes up to speed. It's kind of nice to see there is a new lens mount which can be backwords compatible with older(still current) lens.As much as I don't think there's a future for the 4/3 lens format from Olympus. I do like the micro 4/3 format which is just a miniture camera without the mirror box. I wish canon would do that. I really like the Contax G2 and would love to have something like that in a digital format. The Contax G2 lens don't permit digital operations due to the lens design, they are made to have the light go at such an angle it wouldn't work so well with the not so flat digital sensor. [more]

Metadata Working Group Introduces First Specification for Interoperability and Preservation of Metadata in Digital Photography Last month a group got together and set some standards for tagging data embedded within a photo(digital).I think that's a great idea.I know my canon has pretty good data embedded, gives lens info, F-stop, shutter speed, serial number and all that.But I know it is a little inconsistent depending on which mode the dial is set to. This is a pretty neat idea making your own skateboards with your photos or art design. I saw a few cool Star wars ones and might make from one of my panoramic photos on this skateboard and hang it like a work of art. Well everyone has USM HSM Silent wave etc Tokina the Hoya powerhouse of otpics has no USM motor. it really limits me from buying any of their lens. I used to own 2 lens, one I really like was the 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8no USM and all. It was built like a brick. I could care less about the "focus" clutch. just give me Full time manual focus HSM USM.Sad. why are they resisting? [more]
