1000 Islands

1000 Islands are located between Kingston and Brockville. In reality there are more then 1800 islands there. In the Beginning of the XVIII (18) century they were divided into 8 groups according to size. It's an amazing place. The scenery is fantastic. Can you imagine seeing massive tankers and cargo ships go right by your house :)

An Aircraft Carrier in China?

You never guess what this is.It's not an aircraft carrier, in fact it's not even a ship. It's a "Military Education Center" at the "Orient Green Boat After-School Camp for Youngsters." The "ship" itself is of traditional steel-frame building construction, and is a generic aircraft carrier. Inside are military displays, exhibition halls, meeting rooms, games, and other attractions, and on the 'flight deck' there are Chinese military aircrafts, such as helicopters, fighters, and attack planes.

You can take a bus or drive to Ontario, Canada's Rockport to actually take a cruise to have a look at the Heart's Island which had that castle.
Trust me the scenery is worth ur bucks.

My high school friends, Dale Fikes & Bobby Gibbs, led the restoration teams that transformed Boldt Castle on Hart Island (renamed Heart Island) from an unfinished, vandalized, shameful mess into the beautiful castle that it is today. Bobby just died a few weeks ago from a brain tumor. Peter Curtis' company built many of the furniture pieces that were used in it. They dedicated their lives to it.

Thanks for that. I just saw the castle in July. It's stunning! They did an incredible job -- I hope they were well compensated, as the entire region appears to have been lifted in terms of tourism.

WOW! I cannot believe that I have never heard of 1000 Islands before. I have definitely put this journey on my "must visit" list. I'd love to read more about the history of this beautiful heaven on earth place. Can you offer web sites with this info? Thanks!

This is the ST. Lawrence River at the point where the water leaves Lake Ontario on its way to the Atlantic Ocean. It's the International border between the US & Canada, in Northern New York State. It is my home.

I live in the 1000 Islands and if you really want to see the most islands you should take the cruise from Gananoque. It covers the most area and is the best cruise available in the area.

This is several hundred feet above sea level. Global warming will not affect this water unless sea level is raised several hundred feet. Nothing for you to worry about.

Rivers are made of what? Water. Although sea levels rising due to global warming will not affect these homes global warming will increase rainfall and melting ice/snow causing rises in this river's level and speed.

global warming will effect the great lakes and the st. lawrence, they will lose water - warmer temps = less snow pack = less runoff = drop in lake levels = drop in st. lawrence. And the governments involved may build bigger dams to slow this process for two reasons - one because the southwest USA wants to pipe water from superior, two the river levels effect ship traffic and so commercial productivity.

We used to do business with Harry Chalk and Sons at Fisher's Landing. Duane was running the operation 10 years ago when I was last there. If you rent or buy a boat from him or store your boat there, say 'HI' for me. Check out this revised google map URL

Yes, I must agree they're quite pretentious and... well, rich. Blatantly rich. There is beautiful architecture and then there is... this. Some of those castles look amazing though (pretentiousness is OK if it was at least 150 years ago.)

I have to agree, the buildings are over shadowing the beauty of the islands. Humans always spoil natures beauty, no offense to anybody, I also have spoiled natures beauty with my own cottage.......but I did keep my structure to two levels, basement & main floor, & the ariel shot of my property is much prettier because the buildings are not towering above the tree line.

I grew up here. in fact my house is right next to the picture 13 from the top. Brockville On. Canada. That picture is Hardy Mansion Built the same time as the Canadian Parliament buildings and buy the same company. (House of senator Hardy.) Picture 35 from the top is Fullford Manor,(Senator Fullford) which is to the left of Hardy. Fullford made millions with the "pink pill for pale people

Yes, the islands are along the US/Canada border. I've been to most of the places in those pictures (My Grandma has a cottage near the lighthouse near the beginning), and the pictures in fact come out of the books of Ian Coristine, one of which is found here: http://www.amazon.com/1000-Islands-Photography-Ian-Coristine/dp/0973041900/ref=sr_1_1/104-7249813-1808750?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1191203640&sr=8-1

I suggest that we should not make fun of the spelling used by people whose first language may not be English. English is usually only one of several languages that they typically speak.

We used to go here several times every summer growing up. We had a small yacht up there and lived about 2 hours south. It sure is beautiful. I recognized many of the places, particularly Jorstadt Castle on Dark Island and Boldt Castle on Heart Island. Sadly, I have not been there for years, making me feel as if I took it all for granted as a child growing up around there.

There's great fishing and the little resort town of Alexandria Bay is fun. The winters up there are punishing. I believe, for the most part, that most of those places are summer houses for the wealthy

Nonsense. There are many, many homes on the river which are on the mainland, i.e., not on islands, but on the river nonetheless, and you could easily afford one of them for $200-$300 thousand. You don't have to be an American to one one, either.
