Franz Tormers
started as a
collective design
store based in
Christchurch, New
Zealand and run by a
group of friends.
After having run for
some years a graphic
design studio,
called “OUT OF THE
BLUE”, the three
friends opened Franz
Tormers and soon
enough decided to go
online. They don't
just design
t-shirts, they
create art printed
on limited edition
runs of shirts (10 -
20 prints).
Seriously, I so love
those shirts,
there's not a single
shirt I wouldn't
wear from this
exquisite
collection! These
shirts are 100%
cotton and screen
printed at a local
printer in NZ, and
it will cost you
between $35

Well I haven't, but
if you have, Young
Lovers got you
covered. These guys
just came out with
this amazing
Skeleton Hands
design proving
there's more to
skeletons than
skulls! Damn, I just
love the simplicity
of this shirt and
especially the black
on charcoal one.
Like most of Young
Lovers shirts, it's
a limited edition
and comes with a
price tag ($48 plus
s&h) but that won't
stop us from
staring. Right?

ChopShop, one of my
favorite tee stores,
has teamed up with
WellDone in an
effort to raise
awareness and funds
in order to provide
clean water to those
in need throughout
the developing
world. Water By
Numbers shirt, in
the tradition of
ChopShop's "trivia"
designs, features
images of 27
striking water
statistics
highlighting the
various aspects of
the global water
crisis. Did you
know, for example,
that it only takes
$8,000 to build a
well for a community
of around 2,000
people, or that
4,000 children die
each day from
unclean water and
inadequate
sanitation? We're so
used to the idea of
easy access

Ok, I'm sort of
carried away by the
Oscars here but,
hey, it's time to
announce the winners
of our own little
contest in Shirts
Around too! To be
honest I never
thought I'd get so
many entries (around
50 songs!) with such
diversity of sounds,
so what I ended up
doing, is asking
Joey from Akumu Ink
who is also the
designer of the
Ripper shirt, to
pick one of the two
winners. In reality,
there's no right or
wrong answer, but
since there were an
awful lot dark/death
metal entries and
this is not my scene
at all, I wanted to
give these guys a
chance to win a
prize and this is
where Joey comes in.

Yep you heard it
right! Our lovely
brand Lowdtown is
closing closing
down, due to a very
unfortunate event.
Apparently another
designer has a
(copyrighted) logo
quite similar to
Lowdtown's logo (you
know, the one with
the mouthcan),
forcing Ray to go
through a complete
rebranding. Get the
whole scoop here. I
just hate to see a
good brand closing
down, but on the
other hand when
something comes to
an end something
else begins, and Ray
seems very positive
about the future and
is already
developing a new
concept. So stay
tuned! Now my good
hunters, I think we
all know what

Speaking of
"congressman
pancakes", I found
the other day this
DC Delicious shirt
that made me wonder:
what's wrong with
us? Why do we want
to eat every single
landmark in DC?
Keeping in mind the
financial crisis and
the general
frustration, I bet
you, the answer is
somewhere in Greek
mythology or
Freudian
psychoanalysis. At
this moment though,
I wont even bother.
I just found this
shirt to be very
amusing and sweet,
and a great match to
Breakfast at the
Capitol shirt that I
featured last week.
DC Delicious shirt

Brand of the Free,
which is known for

Concrete Rocket is a
store based, I
believe, in
Singapore and run by
two brothers. The
designs are signed
by illustrator Budi
Satria Kwan (aka
radiomode) who you
might already know
through his winning
designs at the big
guys, like
Threadless and DBH,
and many other fine
establishments.
These designs are
very eye catching
with so nice details
and surreal imagery.
As Budi puts it
"Concrete Rocket is
about surreal
images, social
commentaries and
gag". These shirts
are hand printed and
custom tailored,
with a slim, fashion
forward cut (so
check the size chart
before you order).
It will cost you

Vicious History
launched just a few
weeks ago but their
designs look so
promising! Duh, the
brand features
shirts designed by
some of the best
designers out there,
such as Keaton
Henson whose work
has been featured
here oh a few times,
Oatmeal, Killer
Napkins, and Craig
Robson. The store is
run by Chaz Matses,
a 22 year old
college student from
Boston, who
obviously has a hell
of a taste and knows
how to put together
a kick ass team, but
also has a vision
for his brand; the
designs have
historical
influences with a
twist, with a
contemporary look.
Vicious History is
definitely a
refreshing entry
