The meaning of Cryptozoology
Cryptozoology comes from the Greek words Kryptos meaning hidden and logos meaning discourse.
An ‘unexpected’ animal makes it of interest to cryptozoology according to the International Society of Cryptozoology.
Cryptozoology was founded by the belgian biologist Bernard Heuvelmans but, as far as I know, it is still not recognised as a true science. I have to ask the question, why? What does it take for something to be considered a science? More proof? More research? More interest?
So, anyway, what constitutes a cryptozoological beast?
Apparently it is anything that doesn’t belong or is not widely known or recognised as the norm. I.e. Large creatures sighted in Lakes or bodies of water, huge furry beasts that walk upright on two legs but have the form of something else not easily recognised like the Yeti and many other such creatures.
Some of the most well-known beasts are:
The Monster of Chesapeake Bay
The Loch Ness Monster
Ogopogo
The Yeti
Yowies
Bigfoot
The Chinese Wildman
Do you have a favourite cryptozoological beast? Would you like to know more about a beastie? Do you have any questions you would like answered about cryptozoology?
Please feel free to ask away and I will do my best to either answer your questions or feature your favourite topic on this blog. Please note, it must be about cryptozoological beasts.
