| According to experts, babies should not be left asleep in car seats because of a higher risk of stopping breathing. Children aged under one month old are particularly vulnerable when seated. The element of risk is higher because the reflex to keep the head upright, allowing unimpeded breathing, is still developing at this age. The findings were based on an analysis of all unexpected deaths among babies up to 12 months in the Canadian province of Quebec between 1991 and 2000.
