Absolutely gorgeous images of some stunning creatures of the deep

Crossota sp., a deep red medusa found just off the bottom of the deep sea. This species of amphipod, Eusirus holmii, was surprisingly found in association with the ice as well as deeper than 2000 meters. Hymenodora glacialis, the only pelagic shrimp known to inhabit the Canada Basin. In many species of copepods, males are rare and short-lived. This male of Scaphocalanus acrocephalus is readily distinguished from the female by his antennae and tail.
