AntWorks

Antworks are ant farms of the future. It was a NASA project back in 2003 to see how ants successfully tunnel in microgravity. The gel is contains nutrients so ants can easily sustain their colony. The LEDs at the base of the ant farm illuminate it making the farm a piece of art. Now you can buy this space age ant farm at antworksonline.com

Phoenix Lands safely on Mars

Phoenix landed safely on the arctic plains of Mars today thus giving everyone at NASA a wonderful surprise. It was a perfect landing at the exact spot. It was like making a whole in one from 10,000 miles. The probe has already sent images from the red planet.

Earth as Art

Photos of Earth taken from satellites using special filters. These photos tell scientists how the area changes. I don't completely understand how it works, but I do know that the photos are wonderful.

Programming error led to loss of Mars Global Surveyor

A command sent to the wrong computer address caused a cascade of events that led to the loss of the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft in November, NASA investigators reported Friday. The error by ground controllers in Denver caused the spacecraft to "think" mistakenly that its solar panels were stuck. By trying to free them, the spacecraft overheated one of its batteries, eventually causing a loss of power. The spacecraft, which had orbited Mars for 10 years, was given up for lost Jan. 28. The spacecraft was managed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena and Lockheed-Martin

Grass on other planets may not be green

The greenery on other planets may not be green. Astrobiologists say plants on Earth-sized planets orbiting stars somewhat brighter than the Sun may look yellow or orange, while those on planets orbiting stars much fainter than the Sun might look black.Vegetation colour matters to astrobiologists because they want to know what to look for as a sign of life on planets outside the solar system. Terrestrial photosynthesis depends mostly on red light, the most abundant wavelength reaching the Earth's surface, and blue light, the most energetic. Plants also absorb green light, but not as strongly,

NASA lacks $ 1 billion

Congress in 2005 asked NASA to come up with a plan to track most killer asteroids and propose how to deflect the potentially catastrophic ones. "We know what to do, we just don't have the money," said Simon Worden, director of NASA's Ames Research Center. These are asteroids that are bigger than 460 feet in diameter, they are a threat even if they don't hit Earth because if they explode while close enough..the devastation from the shockwaves is still immense. The explosion alone could have with the power of 100 million tons of dynamite, enough to devastate an entire state. The cost to

Saturn images

The international Cassini spacecraft has beamed back to Earth never-before-seen angles of Saturn from high above and below its majestic rings. The planet is fully surrounded by the rings in images released Thursday by NASA.Cassini snapped the images while in a highly inclined orbit during the past two months. The $3.3 billion Cassini mission, funded by NASA and the European and Italian space agencies, was launched in 1997. It is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

181 Things To Do On The Moon

If you woke up tomorrow morning and found yourself on the moon, what would you do? NASA has just released a list of 181 good ideas. For example, the moon could be a good location for radio astronomy. A radio telescope on the far side of the Moon would be shielded from Earth's copious radio noise, and would be able to observe low radio frequencies blocked by Earth's atmosphere. Observations at these frequencies have never been made before and opening
