Progress

Great joke about the wonders of scienceOne day Bill complained to his friend, “My elbow really hurts, I guess I should see a doctor.”His friend offered, “Don’t do that. There’s a computer at the drug store that can diagnose anything quicker an cheaper than a doctor. Simply put in a sample of your urine and the computer will diagnose your problem and tell you what you can do about it. It only costs $10.”Bill figured he had nothing to lose, so he filled a jar with a urine sample and went to the drug store. Finding the computer, he poured in the sample and deposited the $10.

Scientists have successfully made an healthy, beating heart from a dead one

For the first time scientists have grown a healthy beating heart. this is a major breakthrough and now people with coronary disease have a chance to get an organ for transplant. It's believed that this method can be used to grow livers, lungs or kidneys. The experiment was done using animal hearts and still is in early stages. Growing human organs for transplant is still a few years away. The technique of growing a heart involves stripping away the cells from a dead donor heart to leave behind connective tissue. Then healthy heart cells are introduced to the tissue which spread and multiply creating

Eat Like a Caveman and Live Longer

Studies show our genes haven't changed much in 200 million years so neither should our diet. According to nutritionist Dr Tania Ash eating grass-fed meat, fish high in omega-3 and seasonal fruit and vegetables like our pre-historic ancestors did would keep us young and attractive. "It's a benefit of anti-ageing medicine that we probably undersell," she said. "People probably look at more injectable methods rather than looking internally."The followers of the anti-ageing diet also require to drink only filtered or bottled water and eat seasonal berries. Some wine is ok. Good diet

New biotechnologies enable teeth to re-grow. New toothpaste

The $3 billion global market for toothpaste is on the verge of a shake-up as new biotechnologies come through that not only curtail sensitivity problems but will also enable teeth to re-grow to fill in small cavities. Today’s toothpaste comes in a plethora of flavours and can of course whiten teeth but from a medical viewpoint, little has progressed in the 40 years since fluoride was added to fight decay. Now though scientists in various countries have developed differing technologies that produce similar results to deaden sensitivity and recalcify the teeth, problems that have increasing significance

woman forcing doctors to let her die

A terminally-ill woman is beginning a ground-breaking legal bid to force doctors to let her die.Kelly Taylor, 30, has been given less than a year to live, and will argue that medics are breaching human rights laws by refusing to provide treatment which will lead to her death. She is attempting to compel doctors to vastly increase her morphine dose to sedate her into a coma-like state. The morphine alone could kill Mrs Taylor, who is frail and endures constant pain.Physicians have refused to provide the treatment, saying it amounts to euthanasia."I have made the decision because enough is enough.

Will stem cells be the cure?

Scientists in the USA claim that they have discovered a new way of obtaining stem cells, which does not require using embryo tissue for that purpose. After seven years of research North Carolina scientists have developed a technology for obtaining stem cells from amniotic waters, without damaging the embryo. Before this, most stem cells suitable for research were obtained from human embryos. Stem cell culture is developing fast and gives big hopes for curing serious diseases, such as diabetes, Parkinson and Alzheimer's diseases. The specialists are able to create muscle, nerve and kindey tissues

Would you buy immortality?

Do you want to live forever? i guess almost everyone would say "No way!".. mostly we have no desire to outlive our loved ones and to endure the aches and pains of old age on our own. But what if you could die, then come back hundreds of years later with a new body? What if you weren't alone? What if your children, your spouse, even the family pet could come back with you? Maybe then u ll consider. This scenario one day can become a reality. It's called cryonics. In short, it's the deep-freezing of human bodies immediately after death for preservation and possible revival in the future.
