Bouncing Jet

Usually when one liquid is poured into another liquid they mix almost instantly. However is the pool of liquid is moving as the jet hit, it can slide along the surface being separated from the pool by a thin layer of air. Because of the weight of the jet and the force required to change directions, the surface is pressed downward and a dent is formed in the shape of a bowl. The sliding jet then ramps out of this bowl and into the air.You can do the same thing home. (1) the jet's initial stages of falling, (2) its separation from the bulk fluid by a thin layer of air, (3) its bending upwards,

Liquid Mirror Telescopes

Astronomers have long thought of constructing a telescope out of mercury. The reason is that such telescopes would be able to point straight up, and it is best direction to look, because line of sight passes through the least amount of atmosphere. The author reports the progress his group has made constructing a 6-meter liquid-mirror telescope, and he discusses plans for other instruments of this kind to be built at more suitable sites—perhaps even on the Moon.

Highspeed oil drops

I doubt that i can repeat the success of this post, still here is another example of liquid drops in slow motion. The author uses sound generator with different frequencies to produce different drop figure effects (all those primal body parts). Several drops of fluid of each color were placed on a rubber membrane. The volume of the tone generator had to be adjusted by experimentation. The lighting was created by two Vivitar 238 flashes and the lens in use was the AF200/4D micro set on F27.For more detailed explanations and actually the source of the pictures, go here.
