| Report in the Boston Globe this morning out of Ethiopia (a country that knows how civil strife can ruin a potentially prosperous nation) tells of how the African Union will attempt to calm the unrest in Kenya. Will the current organization do more for the continent than the former OAU (Organization of African Unity)? Only time will tell, but at least things are getting underway before the deathtoll reaches into the thousands - it stands at 850 as of yesterday.I'm finally starting to see more than just a soundbyte from the television newsmedia about what is happening in Kenya. It's still

| I was going to take a break from the serious news for the weekend until I saw this video of the latest Kenyan violence. Yesterday saw even more people killed in the clashes with police and now with Tribal tensions making things worse, I wonder how high the body count has to be before we see improvement. From all the different viewpoints that are making it out of Kenya - including some very informative comments made to a previous post , I can't choose a side. And it seems even native Kenyans are having a hard time deciding who the good guy is, if there is one. http://www.angryjed.com/2008/01/more-violence-in-kenya.html

| No, I have not forgot about Kenya. Ralia Odinga of Kenya's ODM opposition party now has to answer to the Government's charges of Ethnic Cleansing. The more I look into this the more muddy the waters become and even though the current regime stole the election, it seems atrocities are being played out on both sides. As time goes on it gets harder to figure out exactly who the good guys are, if there are any.So far the numbers are comparatively small: 600 dead is tiny compared to the atrocities in Rwanda a decade ago, but the fighting may have only just begun. The violence in Nairobi has picked

| So far we are hearing of 300 dead, thousands displaced and things will probably get worse before getting better in Kenya. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), attempted to gather to protest only to be reminded by the Pro-Government police what they think of Freedom of Assembly. Let's see what happens on January 8th, when the ODM attempts to gather againLet's not forget that this goes beyond political lines as economic and Tribal tensions have been flaring up as well. And what will the West do? Australia might do something, since 600 of its citizens are now trapped in what is basically

| No matter how you look at it: Africa is a mess and the rest of the world should be ashamed of how we just ignore it. From the Darfur crisis, to the Blood Diamond trade and now even supposed African success stories like Kenya are unraveling. Kenya is one of those rare African countries where Westerners actually want to go, mainly for its wildlife. What will happen to the all-important tourist trade in Kenya once the world takes notice of this fraudulent Presidential Election and the violence that is ensuing? Sadly most of the world will not take notice, they never pay attention to what happens
