New Species Found on Deep-Sea "Mountain Range"

Abundant new and rare marine species have been discovered on a deep-sea mountain range in the middle of the North Atlantic, scientists say. Exotic worms, colorful corals, unusual sea cucumbers, and a plethora of weird fish are among the creatures that scientists spotted on a recent expedition to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, an underwater range that divides the North Atlantic Ocean in two. At least one new species, a tiny crustacean called a seed shrimp, is likely new to science, researchers said. Another exciting find was a "spiral poo worm," an animal first identified in 2005 that deposits

Second Earth has finally been found and conditions there are ideal for life

Astronomers say water could exist on the surface and temperatures are between zero and 40°C, reports The Sun.It is one-and-a-half times the size of our own planet and the discovery team say conditions are perfect for Earthlings, also it is 14 times closer to its star Gliese 581 than we are to the sun, but its star is much cooler.A European team used a giant telescope on a mountain top at La Silla, Chile, to spot the planet - which is 20.5 light-years away in the constellation of Libra.Scientist Xavier Delfosse said: "This planet will most probably be a very important target of the future

A breakthrough which could lead to the end of the electric plug and power lead

It is possible to transfer an electrical current from one coil of wire to another without them touching. The phenomenon, called electromagnetic induction, is already used in power transformers and electric motors around the world. The breakthrough came when lead researcher, Dr Marin Soljacic, realised there was another way of transferring energy through the air.Rather than sending power as a conventional electromagnetic wave, he could use the transmitter to fill a room with a 'non-radiative' electromagnetic field. Most objects in the room - such as people, desks and carpets - would be unaffected.

Every day of a week stands for a planet!

I commented with a word "Wednesday" today and somehow started thinking, what a weird word it is. So I startes searching the Web, to find out, how days of the week were formed.Monday. Monday or "Moon day" (Old English - Mona).Tuesday. From Old English Tiwes taag - Day of Tyr, a Nordic God (also Tiw, Tew, Tiu). Tyr was the Norse equivalent of the Roman war god Mars, which is why in Roman languages, like French, Spanish and Italian, word "Tuesday" sounds derived from Martis dies (e.g. "mardi"). In India Tuesday is called "Mangalvar", for the Vedic planet Mangala or

Archaeologists yesterday doscovered tombs of a pharaonic butler and a scribe that have been buried for more than 3,000 years — proof that Egypt's sands still have secrets to open.Even though archaeologists have been exploring Egypt for more than 150 years, what is found for now consists only one third, of what can be found."The sands of Saqqara reveal lots of secrets," said Egypt's antiquities chief, Zahi Hawass, as he showed reporters a 4,000-year-old mud brick tomb that belonged to a scribe of divine records, Ka-Hay, and his wife. The tomb, along with the butler's 3,350-year-old
