According to African lore white liones are a lucky charm and are born every 100 years. So much for that legend. Natasha a white lionss has gave birth to two white lions cubs Haze and Star. Then within the same month another lioness, Maryn gave birth for 4 white lion cubs named Neptune, Ariel, Oberon and Ophelia.White lions are not albino, they are just pale as a result of a genetic mutation.

Two weeks ago 4 white lion cub were born in the wildlife zoo in Schloss-Holte Stukenbrock, German. The mother rejected 3 of the cubs who are now being hand-fed by the zookeepers. Sadly the 4-th cubs didn't live long. In the wild white lions are very rare. In captivity however is another story. At about the same time another lioness gave birth to white cubs in another German zoo. Fortunately she is taking care of the litter herself.

Recently I wrote about two polar bear mothers Vera and Wilma at Nuremberg zoo who gave birth to cubs. Zoo keepers thought Vera did not feed her cubs but decided not to interfere with the natural process and let the mother learn and practice. Wilma was thought to be a good mother, being in the den all the time, feeding her young.But the reality was much harsher than it seemed.Vera came out of the den with her cub in the mouth. It looked like she was grooming it. Moments later she began swinging the cubs around her head, trowing all over the enclosure and then dumped it in her den.

Letters and phone calls bombard the Nuremberg Zoo in Germany for letting polar bears cubs starve. 2 polar bear mothers Vera and Wilma gave birth three weeks and five weeks ago respectively. It's not known how many cubs are there, no one has seen them yet. Wilma is showing all the characteristics of a good mother. But Vera looks like is starving her cubs to death.She spends many hours outside her lair, neglecting her young and the hungry cries of bear cubs can be heard coming from the lair.Nuremberg Zoo officials do not want to hand-rear the cubs and start another "Knutmania" They say
