Mirror Mirror On The Wall...

As I shaved this morning I saw the reflection of a man I no longer know. I saw a man that has grown old and weak. I saw the shell of a man once proud and strong. A beaten old man willing to “go along to get along”. And I thought to myself; mirror mirror on the wall…I watched in utter amazement as President Bush pretended to chastise the people of China for human rights abuse. Does the President of the United States ever look in the mirror? Does he daily practice his chant: mirror mirror on the wall…When and if he does look in the mirror does the Vice President really answer him:

Resolute in Apology

The government made a huge step today in repairing race relations in this country, did they boost up affirmative action, or increase minority benefits? Nope, they apologized for the years of Jim Crow and the insanity of slavery. Of course there is much more to be done, but this is a vital first step. For the government to admit that it is fallible and makes mistakes means that they have shame and can therefore learn from their mistakes. Feeling shame is one of the most basic evolutionary traits that humans have to make sure we don’t do something again and if the government can show shame

What Fools We Americans Are

What fools we Americans are. We claim to have representation at the highest councils of our government. Yet our congresspersons and senators do and vote for what is best for themselves. They represent only their own economic interest. What fools we Americans are.Elections are coming soon. Again we are asked to vote for the person best suited to represent our views. Yet we all know that the person we elect, regardless of party affiliation, will not represent our views but only the view that best suits their own economic interest. What fools we Americans are.We claim to have high morals. Yet we

Bush's Last State Of The Union Speech -Yawn

You can tell George Bush loves the State of the Union speech - center of attention, countless standing ovations and it's the one time of year that even his enemies hold out just a tiny bit of hope that he will "get it" this time. Well like always, the Democrats have found plenty to complain about in Bush's plan for his last year in office. As for me, I'm just sick of hearing him talk - he does not get it, he's never had to look for a job, or try and claim unemployment, he does not know anyone without health insurance. Apparently Bush thinks that $600 is going to help someone so far

Robert Gates the US defence secretary has asked congress to approve $189bn more in funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He said the money is needed to, among other things, to "consolidate our bases in Iraq". More money is also needed to improve US facilities in the region and for more training and equipment for the US military and to train and equip Iraqi security forces. The Bush administration had already asked congress to approve $147bn. Gates said it was now seeking another $42bn more. The latest request will go to hardware - $11bn for new mine resistant personnel carriers

The Roots of the HUAC Committee

The Roots of the HUAC Committee The roots of the House Un-American Activities Committee go back to the 1930's when it was initially known as the Special Committee on Un-American Activity. Created by the Liberal Democratic Senator from New York Samuel Dickenstein, the main focus of its investigations were domestic American Fascism and Nazism. In 1938, with its status as a committee of the House of Representatives extended and now under the leadership of conservative House member Martin Dies, its new task was to investigate subversive organizations and unamerican propaganda; this quickly took
