The Wizard of Oz has dramatically come true - a huge tornado obliterated most of this south-central Kansas town.At least 10 people have died and the search for tornado victims continues. The town is destroyed but rescue workers and officials hope they can rebuild Kansas city. The American National Weather Service classified the Friday night tornado as an F-5, the highest category on its scale.

On April 26 21 years ago the worst nuclear power accident in history occured. The accident consisted of an explosion at the plant and subsequent radioctive contamination of the surrounding area. The power plant was located near Pripyat, Ukraine.It resulted in evacuation and resettlement of over 336 000 people. How many are still dying from radiation received back then is unknown. Twenty-two people died after an Indonesian passenger jet overshot the runway and burst into flames on landing in the cultural capital of Yogyakarta on Wednesday. Dozens of passengers leapt from the plane's emergency exits into surrounding rice paddy fields to escape the inferno, which reduced the plane to a smoldering wreck of twisted metal."Following the evacuation process, we found that 112 passengers survived while 21 passengers died," national carrier Garuda Airlines said in a statement. "From the crew, six people survived and one cabin crew member died."

A strong earthquake hit the Indonesian island Sumatra, killing at least 70 people and destroying many buildings.The earthquake of 6.3 magnitude was set in the centre of Padang town. Many people might be missing. The quake struck 03:49 GMT, causing havoc and panic. Two hours later another quake struck. Communication lines are cut and there are fears that the earthquakes will continue.
