Monica Lin Brown, a 19 year-old medic from Texas will be the first woman in Afghanistan and the second woman since WWII to get the Silver Star the nation's third-highest medal for valor. Gates urged Europe to share the burden of Afghanistan

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates spoke in Munich Conference on Security Policy he urged European nations to commit more troops in the fight against extremism in Afghanistan. He complained that the U.S, Canada and Britain are doing most of the "work" while countries as Germany, France, Italy aren't doing enough. U.S Wars Will Cost $3.5 Trillion

Within the next decade the costs of US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will be $3.5 trillion. About $1.6 trillion will have been spent by the end of next year. These wars cost average American families $21,000 a year and by 2017 will cost $46,000 The adding figures are considered by the new report are -treating wounded troops, the extra cost of oil due to a fall in production in Iraq and interest on foreign loans used to fund the wars. Democratic senator, Chuck Schumer said: "What this report makes crystal clear is that the cost to our country in lives lost and dollars spent is tragically unacceptable."
