How to Reset RAM in a Computer

RAM, otherwise known as Random Access Memory, is basically the memory that your computer uses at short term, in order to keep track of all the actions you are currently doing on the computer. If your computer does not have enough free system memory, your programs will begin to run slow, and your computer may actually crash. Usually when you finish with a program, the RAM that was being used is released back into the system; however, there are times that this does not occur. To solve this problem and reset your system RAM, all you need to is defragment your system RAM with a program.

Instructions

Step 1 Download RAM Def 2.6 Xtreme from the link in the Resources section below. Save the file to your computer. This software has been tested for spyware and viruses, so you have nothing to worry about. Best of all, the software is completely free! See the resources section for the link. Step 2 Unzip the file, and run the .exe file to install the software to your computer by following the on screen instructions. This installation will take you around five minutes, and will not take up much storage space on your hard drive. Programs like these are perfectly fine for your computer system, and will help you keep up maintenance on it. Step 3 Run the program. The first time you run the program you will be prompted to choose settings. You'll need to click "Yes" on the box that pops up in order to choose the settings. These settings will dictate how the program will behave from now on, in terms of the way it will display information to you, and how often it will run. Step 4 Choose settings that appropriate to your liking. It is suggested to allow the program to run at all times, and when Windows starts, so that you may always keep an eye on your memory resources. You can set the program to alert you when your resources have reached 1/3 of the total system memory available. Once you have chosen these settings, click OK. Step 5 Click Start to begin the defragmenting process. When you are finished, you can click Send to Tray so that the program will continue to run in the background and notify you of your status.

Not to be against you hatred toward macs(i too dislike them), but you may have never used a mac to its full potential, such as networking, photoshop, and i hear its good for partitioning a drive so you can run both windows and Linux, but i am still a windows person. i grew up on, developed my knowledge around it, so that's what i will continue to use.

I have more fun with PHP. Ever heard of a LAMP server? It's a fairly well-known and reliable configuration consisting of Linus as the OS, Apache for the HTTP server, MySQL for the database, and PHP for server-side scripting (sometimes Perl or Python or something similar is used instead, though). Asp sucks. MediaWiki (Wikipedia's software) is based on PHP, as is Drupal, Joomla, etc. Plus Linux doesn't cost money, Windows does.

Guide to the hidden "Resources" section:

Open browser
Type: "google.com" in address bar(note, many browsers default to some Google, Yahoo!, or other search engine page - many also include a "search bar" in the upper right corner, giving quick access to numerous search engines - if this is your case, skip this and the next step)
Press "Enter"
In the search field, insert "RAM Def 2.6 Xtreme"
Click "Search"
Be amazed

I am impressed. What a complete waste of time and effort. If you want to "defrag" your RAM - which is meaningless, the fragmentation is only a problem on hard disks - then just reboot your PC. Bingo, job done, with 100% efficiency.

Believe it or not...there are many computers in the world which cannot be rebooted every time a program forgets to let go of some RAM. They are used in critical applications such as monitoring systems at hospitals, emissions monitoring on smokestacks...many places. They can certainly benefit from this program.

It's really sad that people spread this crap. If you don't know what you're talking about then stop posting "technical" articles because defragmenting RAM is absolutely unnecessary, and the majority of these programs have ulterior motives.

Yeah, because bloggers have nothing to do but redirect you to harmful software you idiots. It's 83KB, what kind of hardcore 'spyware' are you expecting to get?
And what's so hard to understand about this?
"Usually when you finish with a program, the RAM that was being used is released back into the system; however, there are times that this does not occur."
No i'm not going to restart my fucking computer everytime a program crashes to free up my RAM. I'm coming more to the conclusion reading comments is pointless on the internet.

Spyware/Virii need not have a large. In fact, they are usually pretty small. Memory does not need to be cleaned up by software, the windows' kernel cleans it up automatically after the process finishes executing, whether it exited with success or failure.

Windows costs money since forever! You pay for it when you buy a new computer. It's included in the cost. And if you want to upgrade windows to a newer version, guess what? You have to go buy a copy from a store or on the internet.

Linux is free but is not the end all be all answer to the lack of security and stability in Windows. It's just not compatible enough (I.E. you cant run many windows apps on it.)

And this ram reset thing is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If your computer starts crashing apps then you've got a lot more to worry about. Little bits of code get stuck in weird places when a program crashes. No "Ram Reset" utility is ever gonna fix that. The only fix is a reboot. Oh and for the developers to write their apps better and for Microsoft to get it together and test their OS more.

Defragmenting ram is a waste of time. Defragmentation of hard drives is important as the data gets spread all over the disk and the head has to move a lot to gather that data. There are no physical moving parts in RAM. Every cell takes the same amount of time to access.

To the person that complains about rebooting and says that not all machines can be rebooted cause they are performing special tasks (like monitoring smoke stack output, etc, ) You are right, they shouldn't be rebooted very often. They usually don't because they only perform one task. Not much for programs opening and closing on them. They usually have one service that just runs and runs. Lower chance of corrupted memory and program crashes. Unless of course they are poorly written apps.

I was redirected from another link about how to reset RAM. So, I was curious to see what this site actually said. When I was in college, I was taught that the way to reset your RAM is to do a cold boot, not a warm boot, but cold. So, I had to check this site out to see what other ways they came up to reset it. This is too funny.

Has anyone ever done a study on the more comments an article has the more volatile the comments are?... everyone gets really aggrovated after reading through 30 comments (on which note, someone's bound to write a nasty comment about this).

While I'm here... would this software be any help to prevent a problem i have... I help t a radio station where we have a problem between two computers, one which sends and the other recieves the audio signal, buffers it, and then sends it on to the transmitter. The buffer time increases though, and after a while there can be a 2 minute delay between sending and transmitting, so the computer often has to be restarted, causing several minutes of 'dead air'. Would this software save time restarting?

any safe way to recover ram windows will already be doing and as others have pointed out the best way to "reset your ram" is by rebooting the machine. installing programs which do things which are either already done by the operating system or prominently mention "has been tested for spyware and viruses, so you have nothing to worry about" is usually a bad idea. in this case it has both these "features". install it at your own peril.

And this ladies and gentlemen is a geek pissing contest. It doesn't matter if either side is actually right, and don't try to understand wtf they're actually arguing about. One argument is about the same as another. (ie. Linux vs. Windows... Star Wars vs Star Trek) Eventually it will come down to blows via email infused with viruses or sneering over a MMORPG.

If, for any reason your programs start to crash more than likely you will end up rebooting your computer. Because unless you are a geek, you'll not care WHY they are actually crashing to begin with. Stay off the naughty sites and you'll not have to worry too much about viruses. Pay for your content and you will not have to worry about a big corporation messing with you about copyright laws.

Now, if you'll continue on this way, I'm sure we can find another comment war right around the next website.

HAVE A NICE DAY!!
