What!? How is this even possible? Because science, my friends. Brusspup’s (previously) latest video explores what happens when a stream of water is exposed to an audio speaker producing a loud 24hz sine wave. If I understand correctly the camera frame rate has been adjusted to the match the vibration of the air (so, 24fps) thus creating … magic zigzagging water. Or something. Brusspup did a similar experiment last year where it looked as if the water was flowing in reverse. Can somebody please make a water fountain that does this or would we all be deaf? (via stellar)

PANDORA is a flexible laptop PC for the next generation. Through its flexible display and proper application of various technologies, this laptop PC can be applied to a number of interfaces smoothly. A shade less thicker than typical tablets, the device boasts of thin flexible battery technologies as well. A good hybrid concept for gen-next I love the new form and approach towards the design. Measuring only 9mm thick, it can be easily gripped and is convenient to carry. Materials used include fine porous grapheme materials, high polymer and silicon on the hinge part. Kitchens are often built around function alone with not nearly as much thought going into the aesthetics, leaving little for originality. Enter the Bulgarian design twins of Gemelli Design Studio. This duo thinks so far outside the box that the box isn’t even in sight. Their innovative design for “Cubism in the Kitchen” is bright and abstract and while not exactly for everyone, you can appreciate its uniqueness. The chaotic green lines that run throughout the space make for an energetic interior with all kinds of nooks and crannies to focus on. Overall, the design does certainly reflect the style of cubism in the most modern of ways. Designers: Desislava Ivanova and Branimira Ivanova of Gemelli Design Studio. What do you think? What do you do if your cousin is on a mission to take a community of 700 people living on the streets in Mumbai India, and turn them from “very poor” to “middle class” in just eight years? If you’re Pepe Heykoop, you set about designing products that they can make and teaching them the skills required to make them, providing them with the income they need to escape abject poverty. It was an honor to meet him at IMM Cologne. He was showcasing two products; the Leather Lampshade and the Paper Vase cover – which uses simple folding techniques to provide a decorative cover for bottles which are thrown away all over India, turning them into something useful. Pepe’s cousin is Laurien Meuter, founder of The Tiny Miracles Foundation, an organization which believes they can make the world a better place, but that in order to do so, they need focus. So they have picked one street in Mumbai’s red light district, home to the Pardeshi community. Their ambition is that by 2020 the community that...

On the echo of the bourgeois way of life and social tendencies of Romania’s capital, Sky Club by Live Concept in Ploiesti, Romania, embodies the multi-functional, minimalistic and fusion trends of the high and upper-middle class citizen. Situated in the midst of a leisure complex, it was decided to develop a structure whose form and functionality would make the most of its environment trough the elaborate metamorphosis of a preexisting industrial building. Thus it was necessary to construct said extension in the form of a light-weight modular metallic and glass structure in order to obtain cross-season functionality trough elements such as: a retractable roof and folding 36mX4m frame-free glass façade leading up to the leisure center’s pool. The core idea for the interior design has its origins in the playful “doodling” done in our offices. In a brainstorming session regarding the direction of our approach we transcended from sketching out ideas on paper to outlining them outright...

Finally! Someone made an LED desk lamp that can change from a cool blue color to a warmer yellow color with a touch of a button. On top of that, it has a USB port for charging. The versatile lamp was designed to meet the lighting needs of business pros, students and busy moms and features user friendly touch controls to toggle between four different brightness levels. The Speed Guard is a speedometer alert that uses a colored display to let the driver know that he is speeding above the permitted speed limit. GPS readings detect the position of the car and the speed limit of that particular road. So even if you see the signboard, your car knows the speed limit; no escaping that! Dutch designer Floris Wubben is known for his mixture of modern and natural designs and the latest is Potato Family, a collection of shelving units that resemble potatoes. Little Potato – first image also The design was inspired by childhood figures that kids made out of chestnuts and potatoes. (Remember making those by jabbing toothpicks into the potato for the arms and legs?) The playfulness of that activity comes through with things like how the polished stainless steel legs are positioned and the skewed shape of each shelving cavity. Twin Potato The Potato Family was constructed in collaboration with artist Bauke Fokkema. Twin Potato – detail I love how the texture of the Dutch Fir wood mimics that of a peeled potato. For several years we have found tremendous inspiration strolling the aisles of the Maison & Objet design show in Paris, never knowing exactly what might strike our fancy. Usually, the products we are attracted to, have nothing to do with food, but somehow we find a way to tie it in… by turning it upside down, by taking it apart… when the creative juices start flowing that’s when we’re at our best. This year we were thrilled to see a whole exhibit dedicated to food design. The exhibit Nourriture Premiere by Elizabeth Leriche put food at the center of creation by reinterpreting the power of the first original foods. By looking to the past, Elizabeth inspired artists to rethink the future and the present of food and design. Essential foods such as bread, meat, milk, vegetables, and honey, were highlighted in different settings and sometimes accompanied by tastings designed by fellow food designer Marc Bretillot. The Vivacuum is a compact cleaner for people who are visually impaired. The appliance gets its ‘Vi’ prefix by compounding the words visualize and vacuum. The way its works is very simple, the sensors in the vacuum perceive an object and then transmit it via vibrations to the user. One can choose the suction direction by controlling the steel-wheel of the handle. The Braille steel wheel makes it easy to work the thang. At Freshome we have a soft spot for multi-functional design and this simple, yet catchy product won our attention. A key holder that can also open bottles of beer, the KeyFlip by Jon Lota is a fun alternative to a key-chain and a more manly one as well. At the end of the post, you can have a look at how the project works, even though it is not so difficult to figure it out beforehand. The designer explained the process on Kickstarter: “I have a small mill that I converted to a CNC that I have been making prototypes on. I originally made the KeyFlip out of MDF wood to test the concept. I then made it out of aluminum which made the KeyFlip strong, sturdy, and fashionable. It allows for 4 house/work keys to be flipped out at any time. I also used a small bushing to go inside the housing so the keys are not loose and slide out on their own. If you give a light push on the indented corner, the keys will rotate out”. Find it interesting? You're reading Multifunctional Keychain With...

Oh, Cosmonaut, where have you been? Whoops, wrong idea, let’s try that again. Oh, Cosmonaut, where have you been? It’s such a pain researching styli (or, as you might call them, styluses). Various opinions and reviews send a lesser person into a tailspin, fit to swear off any device-writing-implement for the foreseeable future. However, there’s this simple, dry-erase-marker-like stylus that saves us from relying on our clumsy fingers. A comfortable rubber grip means it’s easy to handle by adults or kids (with or without gloves, mind you), and it’ll work on almost every capacitive touch screen device. Designed and manufactured in America.
