A Perfect Couple

I finally got out to make some photos and luckily I found the perfect pair to shoot. Swans are quite common in the area and they don't shy away from people, especially when snacks are involved. Sometimes you can even feed them from your hand but they tend to bite your fingers :) There were 2 kids on the riverbank throwing bread and I guess speed was a factor and they threw almost whole slices of bread in the water. It reminded be of a movie scene where a boy killed a duck in park with a loaf...

Fine Feathered Friends

During winters birds can always find some oatmeal flakes or bread on the plank on my balcony. It has been a tradition to put some food for the birds for as long as I remember. Usual guests include pigeons, sparrows, tits (love how they named this bird) and common blackbirds. The birds have something to eat and I can take some photos of them. The cat is also thrilled by the show. He can't get to them so all he does is watch and drool :)

New '2010' Year Celebration - Fireworks

Happy New Year everybody! May this year bring you only happiness, laughter and cookies :) As the tradition goes, every night on January 1st at 00:00 everyone goes outside to light their fireworks. This year I took my new Nikon D90 with the 18-105 lens with me to try and capture the fireworks in action. I was pleased with the results as they were much better than I could have expected. Compared to my old Nikon D60 the D90 is much, much, much better and easier to use and the photos are of much...

The Night Sky

It's one of my earlier photos that I took with my old digital camera HP R707. I really like this photo. It's one of those photos that you take and think "Yes, this one is perfect".Perhaps it can even pass as a space photo :)

1986 and 2009

Some time ago I promised to upload the photos of my neighborhood. It took me some time to do that but better late then never. :) This was taken by my dad in 1986. (the kid is my bro) 23 years later.

Sunset on September 18, 2009

One of my favorite things to photograph are sunsets. I started photographing them with my regular digital camera HP R707 and now with my dSLR. During the whole thing a swarm of mosquitoes kept hovering over me - hungry, distracting little buggers.

Ye Olde Cement Plant

Well, it's not that old as the title says but it's old enough to be a complete wreck. I think it closed a long time ago but was used for storage or dump cause there were many old cell phone rechargers lying around.

Snake in the Grass

At long last I've fixed my PC and now, once again I can upload photos. This little guy was crossing the road in a very dangerous place so I had to help him along in turn the snake agreed to a photoshoot :)Not that it had a choice but it was very calm and didn't try to bite or anything.

Riga Retro 2009 (part 1)

Riga Retro was part of the Day of the City aka Day of Riga festival. The festivities started early and ended late with fireworks. This is an annual event but it was the first time I attended it. Such events usually bring lots of people together in a very tight space which is really annoying. If there's a large gathering of people you can definitely say I won't be there. I went to take some photos of cars and I'm glad I did. I was in luck because I was able to photograph all cars when they...

Flower I found... at home

"Hey! Cool flower" I thought to myself "I bet it'll make a cool photo". The thing is I "found" this flower on my table. It was there for God knows how long and I just haven't noticed it. I don't know what's it called so don't ask me. I have no idea what grows in my apartment :)

Kemeri Swamp Trip

These photos are from the swamp near Kemeri. As it turned out the swamp is a very cool place, at least when the sun is shining and there are no mosquitoes and other flying blood-suckers. It's quiet and peaceful and there are no people. Almost no people, we've met a couple while we were there and t be honest it was a complete surprise. One more thing. The swamp is officially closed for tour groups but that doesn't seem to stop anyone.
