Mothers say interesting (dumb?) things to their kids. “Because I said so”, “If your friends jumped off a roof would you do it too?”, “Stop making that face or it will freeze that way”. But one of the nuttiest things I’ve ever heard is, “Always wear clean socks in case you get hit by a car”. I must confess my mother has never said that to me and the first time a friend told me her mother says this to her all the time I was floored. What the heck? A mother’s primary concern would be that her chil

I like to paint. I find it to be a lot cheaper than therapy. When I moved from NY to Texas I left so many of my beloved belongings behind (long story). Among those many things were my art supplies. So I recently took a trip to a neighborhood Michael’s Craft Store to begin building my art supplies back up. Seventy bucks later, I was well on the road to painting my way to happiness once more. Until I read a Yahoo article about skimming scams. It seems Michael’s was recently yet another target of

I never want to appear uncaring or mean, but what the hell?? Does Arnold and Maria’s breakup deserve so much media airtime? How many among us have experienced at least one divorce either ourselves or through a loved one or friend? I’m typing one-handed right now because I have a hand raised. Studies show that half of all marriages end in divorce. And they end for a variety of reasons. Is Arnold the first husband that has strayed and fathered a child by another woman? Certainly not. When I was a kid my grandmother and aunt took me to see the flower show in NYC. I guess it was semi-interesting to my eight-year-old mind, but I found our trip to Central Park so much more interesting. Back in those days NYC wasn’t what it is today. NYC has certainly cleaned up its act since then. When I was a kid there were many more unsavory and unstable characters roaming the streets and many of these characters inevitably congregated in Central Park. It was broad daylight on this particula

The creation and development of the internet has had a huge impact on society; some good, some bad. Whether you’re 9 or 99, chances are you’re familiar with the world wide web. Most of us use the internet in our everyday lives for business, education or pleasure. New websites are popping up every day. And why not? It allows just about anyone to have their few minutes of fame. YouTube, Ebaumsworld and a host of other video sharing websites can make anyone a star overnight. Blog sites can make yo

So you have a blog and happily post as often as you possibly can. You write about things that are important to you. You share funny stories about your children, spouse, co-workers, neighbors. Maybe you even use your blog as a way to let off some steam. Unhappy with the customer service you’ve received at your local superstore? Write about it. Your boss is a jerk? Write about him (leaving out his or her name of course). Your husband constantly leaves the toilet seat up or hogs the remote? Shar

As anyone entering or re-entering the job market knows, it can be a difficult and daunting task. Whether you are a recent college graduate, a mother returning to the work force after raising children, one of many recently laid-off workers or are looking for a career change, you need a professional, well-written resume. Tailoring your resume to a specific job market is key. The average employer receives hundreds of resumes on any given week and devotes an average of just 7 seconds before decidin

Anyone who’s had the heartbreaking experience of a computer crash knows how devastating this can be. Most of us have many irreplaceable documents and photos stored on our computer. And let’s face it, many of us lack the discipline and focus to regularly back up our files because it takes a lot of time and effort. Backing up our own information also requires some sort of data storing device or media. Finding the time to physically backup our files and photos to an external drive, CD, DVD or flas

Hello and welcome, This is my own personal blog, filled with my own personal views on life, love and loss. Blogs, in general, began as online journals, diaries if you will and in some circumstances, have progressed to so much more. People use blogs now in many ways and for many reasons. Extensions of business websites, as ways to get in on the affiliate market craze, as a method to pass along information, and many other reasons. However, as stated above, this blog is my personal views. I tap i

There are many ways to share your blog posts and articles. Every time I publish a new article I share it on Twitter and Facebook, but there are many other places that are more than willing to allow you to share your writing. Technorati, YouSayToo, RedGage and many others are excellent places to share. In a few upcoming posts I will explain the importance of joining as many sites where self-promotion is encouraged.
