One Last Push

After the longest holiday of my entire life (5 months!) getting back in to the groove of uni hasn't been the easiest thing in world. A summer of minimum wage jobs, long shifts and average weather didn't do much to inspire a year of critical thinking and creative ideas. Either way I spent my afternoon in the Wellington central library tapping out an essay on "virtuality" and memorizing katakana for a test on Tuesday, which I am supposed to know all the characters for. I know about 25,...

Back from the Brink

At long last – Joey Nation is back! Iknow you've been on the edge of your seats waiting for this verypost, and here it is. My inactivity has been outrageous but I have sofew readers I figured I needn't worry, I'll just have to catch up toremind myself in future of my first month of flatting! It's been amonth already – crazy! Well I say “flatting” but I swear livingin an apartment should have a different term. “Flatting” makes methink of run down, damp and cold tumbly-down shacks in...

Celebrity of the Week: Whitney Houston

Not suddenly claiming to be a long-time fan of the late Whitney Houston but there is certainly no one more fitting then her to be chosen as the celebrity of the week. I've never really known much about her other than her legendary voice, tumultuous marriage and drug problems but I have know that her greatest song, "I Will Always Love You", written and originally sung by Dolly Parton, will forever be a timeless classic and uphold her legacy. While her death is a terrible shame in terms of her...

For The Sake Of Writing

As I frequently start my blogs saying something like "I have nothing to write about, but I'll write anyway" I thought I'd just admit straight up - this blog is about nothing, and is a ramble, and you should reflect upon your life and consider why you don't go fill out an online survey online, earn like $5 and then donate your earnings to a worthwhile charity. Alternatively you're still reading this and are prepared to read an extensive collection of what I've been up to the past few days....

The Last Grains of Sand

Was looking for a poetic title to describe how I had little time before I ventured back to Wellington to resume a worthwhile life, and that was a good as I came up with. Plus it allows me to include a cute throwback image to a certain worldwide-childhood obsession that if you do not recognise you are a phaylure at life My dad has arranged a bed for me in Wellington which was the biggest concern for me - but otherwise I think I'm going to cope, thank god. Just need a desk, chair and something...

The Ultimate Catch-Up Post

Since I'm officially a wee behind on everything I'm going to combine two "Celebrity's of the Week" and two "Song of the Week"s into one post for last week and this week to officially get me up to speed. Song of the week first so you can play it and carry on reading because you're a devoted reader obsessed and lingering onto every word I write, naturally. Song(s) of the Week: Firstly Katy Perry's new single, the re-mastered version of the eternally-lingering-on-Youtube demo "Part Of Me". It's...

Celebrity of the Week: Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey has obviously been the source of much controversy lately having recently released what may have been one of the more highly-anticipated debut albums in quite a while. What with her critically-butchered SNL performance of her songs 'Video Games' and 'Blue Jeans' and negatively reviewed album, somehow Lana's still become an extremely popular and successful artist and I've grown to be really fond of her music, and she's far from my usual style. While not that far, but her voice is...

Song of the Week: Joseph Arthur - Honey & the Moon

So maybe I don't really have a clue who Joseph Arthur is but I have loved this song since first hearing it on 'The O.C.' and it was always a sweet, summery song and I just love it. From what little I know of Joseph I know he's a pretty talented musician and he does funky things like make all of his live concerts available for download instantly after finishing his performances as they are recorded live throughout, and he's painted/designed the cover for all of his single/album art so he's...

My promises of active blogging didn't exactly ring true last week as we can all see - but living a life of doing the same thing for months on end never brings in much inspiration. The problem is when I will be doing something, aka. heading back to Wellington on the 22nd Feb, it'll be madness and the last thing I'll feel like doing is sitting and typing out some little never-to-be-read sermon about my repetitive life. I've been working lately and just generally being cute. Went to Marahau for...

Song of the Week: Ke$ha - Crazy Beautiful Life

I know Ke$ha isn't for everyone and she does usually just get thrown in the "talentless pop trash" category, which is fair enough considering her hit singles aren't exactly acoustic or lyrical genius (eg. "TiK ToK" or "Blow") but she does have some considerably impressive writing credits to her name and while her voice is not the shining beacon of the 21st century voices, it is unique and can sound pretty good - though perhaps not "conventionally" good, but for her style. Which now sounds...

Old Habits Die Hard

After a stint of hyperactivity on this blog I was already dry, unmotivated and not wanting to write this blog. It's just really hard to write about an average day when literally nothing has happened particularly out of the ordinary, and try to make it something worth reading - but here's my best effort. After staying up foolishly late last night (well not really, but I did go out on Saturday night and wasn't in bed until like 3.30am) to 12.30am, I was called at 9am to go to work this morning...

Song of the Week: sweetbox - Read My Mind

Adding a new series of posts to my blog to ensure I keep it more active, which was on the down-low a New Year's resolution I decided to make. I was pretty lousy with it throughout 2011 and not that it really matters whether I update it frequently or not - but I have decided I'd like to keep it up to speed. Anyway, so here we are: the first "Song of the Week", the 2nd weekly post I'll be writing along with "Celebrity of the Week" so I'll have to be up to speed. This week's song is by one of my...

2012 Goals

Decided to write a more positive blog after Brandon noted I have a trend to write with a considerably obvious negative slant. I guess that's just my unfortunately gloomy outlook on life, but in the spirit of making a change and all that jazz here's a blog devoted to all the good I want to achieve this year. First of all, the same old goal everyone has every year, including myself, which I think I've done alright with for the last two years and that is for me to continue along the health and...

Celebrity of the Week: Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams first was drawn to my attention paying the crushingly tragic Elma in Ang Lee's 'Brokeback Mountain' which regardless of it's gay couple storyline, I'll forever protest it as simply a gay movie and if you've refrained from watching it for that reason you're missing out on what I swear is one of the most beautiful movies, cinematically, I've ever seen. Michelle has always somehow managed to remain out of the limelight despite being a certified A-List actress, confirmed after...

The Wellington Job Dilemma

Out of my own interests, and to potentially benefit my luck in acquiring a cute job in Wellington this year, I did a barista course on Thursday. It was only like two and a half hours but I, and three others, were taught by two pros at the Pomeroy's factory about where coffee originates, the different types and most importantly how to make them. We made expresso (short black), latte's and cappuccino's which were pretty cute and learnt how to froth the milk nicely and which machines to use etc....
