I’d like to think that I’m pretty computer/internet savvy. But, the occasional scam does get through. Luckily, I have AVG installed on my computer and it caught this pretty quick. This is a so-called Facebook app that claims it can tell you who has visited your facebook profile page recently. I’m pretty sure that this has done the rounds once or twice before. Don’t ask me why I fell for it this time Anyway, you are encouraged to click on a wall post that one of your friends’ has signed up to...

Twitter / @minskinnywin/writers-authors. The above list on Twitter is one I set up not that long ago. In this short time it has grown to over 350 members and continues to grow on a daily basis. I’m highlighting it here because it has proved to be a success in social networking and marketing terms for me and especially for others. I set up a lot of things; weblogs, lists, websites etc. but very few ever take off. Mainly because, for some reason or other, they are removed or deleted, usually by...

When I first started out as a writer (and a reviewer, though that came later) I didn’t know anything about the internet at all. My career started the minute I stepped out into the world wide web. Everything I have learned about websites, promotion, marketing, reviewing and SEO, I taught myself. I had no help from anyone. In fact, I actually enjoyed learning about things that I needed to know. It does prove, however, that anyone can do it. I won’t say that old cliche, though: If I can do it,...

Let’s just say you have set up your wn website either at your own domain or at free hosting. Your next step (aside from filling your website full of information and resources about you and what you do) is to promote. You are aiming to promote your services as a writer as well as your website. Your website is designed to inform readers and prospective clients exactly where they can find you, contact you, read about you, find out everything about your services and examples of your work. Traffic t...

When I first started out as a writer in the year 2000, I had to establish a presence on the web. One way of doing this was to set up my own website. As I wasn’t well known I decided to start out with as few overheads as possible. I used free website builders and hosts to set up Hentracks. There are pros and cons to using these services but they did help me for a number of years to build up a presence and reptuation in the career I had chosen. One of the cons is, of course, the advertising tha…

As a new writer or someone who wishes to embark on a writing career, professionally, the prospect of throwing your name out there on the WWW or offline can be daunting. The same applies to a writer, already reasonably well established, and coming back from a long hiatus. Any work that has been done with regards to promotion and marketing has sadly gone to waste. The reasons why this has been allowed to happen can be many, however, it is not important at this stage, to wonder why this is. The most important thing the writer needs to do is to re-activate his/her presence as an accomplished writer ...

Writing Queries is something I’ve recently set up using Google Moderator.I’m certainly not the first person to try out this service from Google and it will be interesting to discover just how well it takes off. Basically, Writing Queries gives all writers/authors etc., the chance to ask any question they like on different topics within the writing world. This includes, at present, general writing queries, squidoo, marketing and promotion. More topics can be added at a later date if it becomes necessary. Its description is as follows:
Your chance to ask questions on all aspects of writing, ...
