The Blood Test A guy walks into a clinic to have his blood type taken. The nurse goes about taking the blood sample from his finger after finishing she looks around for a piece of cotton to wipe away the excess blood. She can't find one so she looks innocently at the guy, takes his finger and sucks it. The guy is so pleased he asks, "Do you think I could have a urine test done?" Donald Rumsfeld Donald Rumsfeld died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St.Peter at the Pearly Gates,...

Dusun Subject and Verb Agreement - Featuring PPISMP TESL SEM II

I have the sweetest smile in the whole wide world My second day at work and I am already feeling very exhausted. I was in PPISMP TESL class this morning, a grueling 2-hour lecture and the topic mind you was Concord or Subject and Verb Agreement. It is a common phenomenon in every grammar lesson that it could get very boring and I can see that clearly reflected in the expressions of my students – quite, emotionless, lifeless eyes and some forced smiles. I will keep concentrating to impress...

Dusun Literary Devices

This was my first day at work after the long semester break. I arrived at the office quite early, met with some familiar faces, some cheerful, others were motionless. I bumped into a few of those chameleons who recklessly crawled through the alleyway, changing colours each time I took a glimpse of them; criss-crossing into my passageway, one looked up and stared, perhaps speculating if I had a slingshot with me. I ignored them, I didn’t say a word. Halfway to the stairways, I met with some...

Adjective Comparative "more" and "pointalib"

I had breakfast with my colleague this morning and one of the topic that caught my ever inquisitive mind was – if the adjective comparative and superlative morphemes (-er) and (-est) is present in the Dusun Language. I requested more information about this to my colleague, Mr. Joseph Yabai, a well known expert in this field and had several published articles on the Dusun language both on the local daily and on some Educational journals as well. Mr. Joseph Yabai @ Joe Martin Jerry My...

What I did on the first day of 2010

I woke up at 10:00 a.m.with a "hangover headache", took my bath and drove to town to my favourite reataurant. I ordered a glass tea with milk (Teh "C") and a bowl noodle soup. Teh "C" Noodle Soup I bought a pack of Benson & Hedges cigarettes and a lighter. This was my favourite brand when I was in college. It cost me about RM10.30 including the lighter. Did I say that I shouldn't be smoking by now? B&H I went to my hairdresser, had a hair cut and trimmed my mouth ache and beard. Welcome 2010,...

My 12 New Year's Resolutions

I will try being a more effective educator by working on comprehensive teaching preparations, improving on my teaching and social skills and trying to remember the names of my student, having said that, these are of course in my dreams only. I will be a good teacher I will try to stick to more nutritious food in the hope of helping me grow taller and bigger. Eat good food I will try and kill the habit of smoking. If I am unable to do so, then I will switch to smoking cigars. Can I stop...

The 25 Things About Me

1. I am an educator. I have been teaching since I was 20 and that is years and years back. Sometimes, I feel that I am just too old for this job. When I am given another chance of a carrier, I would pick to be a comedian, though I never been good at it either. This is me when I was about 20 or 21 years old 2. I was born shorter than my siblings (male siblings of course). I am 5’ 4” and since that I have trouble approaching taller girls and sometimes even shorter girls. 3. I am a loner,...

Yet Another Batch of Funny Commercials

Before going to the funny commercial videos, let me clarify to you on my mistakes during the photo shooting of my previous post. My camera is actually a humble digital Sony DSC-W30, not an SLR but it should do the work for an amateur photographer. I bought it about two years ago. My mistake was not going through the user manual and studying the settings for manual operations. So what I got was some over-exposed shots, too bright and even editing with Photoshop wouldn't do the job. So I...

The Engagement

I started off quite early, probably around 11:00 a.m. The 68- kilometre drive home will probably take me about 45 minutes to an hour. Some “dare devil” drivers could easily reach there in 30 minutes time. The engagement was scheduled to take place during lunch time, at the approximate time between 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. So, I think I have ample time to make a few stops within my journey and taking some quick photo shots for my blogs. One of my main stop is always to my dad’s grove. Though it has...
