I think most people don't realize that just because a newer camera with higher megapixal count doesnt make the photos better.
In fact most often there is little improvements and the noise at lower light is not as good.
The reason being that the size of the sensor is so small.(i'm talking about point and shot cameras).
Most of them are about 1/3 or 1/4th of an inch in diameter, and so even when you jump from 4 to 5 megapixel. the camera's chip diameter remains the same. What tha means is each Pixel gets less surface area. so there is less light reaching each one.
I found this out a few years ago when I went from my Canon G3(4megapixel) to a canon G5(5megapixel).
I didn't see any improvements in quality, but in fact when I use them indoors, I prefer the less noisy photos from my G3.
G6, G7 Gxxx isn't so much better. I stopped at G5, I don't see any point to the upgrades.
One of my favorite features of the G1, G2, G3 and G5 are the rotating LCD is GONE! (yes I own all the first 4 G series.
I'm kind of a camera fanatic.)
Anyways, my rant really is just to let you readers out there know, that you don't need to keep up with the latest and greatest just because the tiny elph is at what 10 megapixel now? My S410 works just fine and I don't really think I'll gain much going to the latest. I do wish the LCD was just a tad bigger but that's not so bad. I never use the lcd to compose my photos, it just looks silly.
Call me old fashion but my cameras all have viewfinders. Even the latest addition, the Canon SD800IS. ok i bought it for my wife because she complain the G3 was too big sometimes. I was really trying hard to like the Olympus one because it was underwater-proof and shock proof but damn, I just did not want the stupid Olympus/Fuji xD memory card.(I'll rant about that some other time). The SD800Is is my first SD camera using the SD memory card, Before that I tried hard to buy only compact flash cameras. The sd format has finally taken me. Why even my GPS takes one of those. :)

you are totally right. More MPs doesn't mean better quality photo.
