Science Museum releases Futurecade
The future of technology is an interesting concept for many people, and for others, there are worries about whether or not we have the facilities and knowledge to maintain the rate of development and look after the Earth at the same time. The Science Museum in London recognises this, and the Talk Science team have been working to create something that will hopefully raise awareness, as well as educating people about this issue. This is part of the Talk Science program, that was originally started to encourage school children to talk about science, so that they can gain an interest in this subject at a young age.
Now, a suite of online games has been created and launched into the midst of the museum and technology world, with the hope that it will bring many important questions to light about the future of technology, medicine and robotics. While many people know the basics of technology, such as how to turn on their computer and use it to type out documents or play on sites like Partypoker.com, many would not have a clue how to build or develop such a device. The same goes for medicines and anything else that is related, and the hope is now that these new games will drum up awareness and interest in technology once again.
The games explore areas including synthetic biology and geo-engineering and have been designed by the Bafta-winning studio, Preloaded. These games will raise relevant questions about technology and the impact that it has on humanity, in the hope that players will eventually form their own opinions with regards to current and emerging scientific issues. Games will include “Cloud Control”, where the Earth’s climate is changing and the player must use Flettner ships to brighten the clouds so that they lower the temperature of the Earth by reflecting sunlight.
