Saving Electricity Isn’t Always Easy

For the last year I have received these notifications from the company that provides our electricity that we are using more than the rest of my neighborhood. I don’t like to waste electricity, so I don’t like when I receive these notices in my mailbox.
Earlier this month I decided to call the electricity company and asked them what was going on. I know that my house isn’t upgraded to central heat and air, so I would have thought that we were using maybe a little less than all the neighbors on my block that are blowing cold air in their homes. Our electricity company then told me they would send someone out to do some research.
Wouldn’t you know that the main cause of the surge in electricity is our hot water heater. Since we have a family of 6, we go through a ton of hot water, not only for baths and showers but from doing the dishes too! Again, my house is a little old and I have not upgraded to a dishwasher, so our dishes are all done by hand.
Since I don’t plan to stop taking a shower every day, I can only stress to my kids to use less. NO more LONG showers or else! I am now finding myself trying to conserve energy in other ways. Even my husband is constantly going around turning OFF lights that the kids turned on that are not being used. I think that if we all do the little things to conserve, it might add up in the long run.
If you are using too much electricity, you might want to see how you can conserve. There are websites such as MoneySupermarket that can compare good deals for energy as well as provide lots of useful money saving tips. I know that I like to SAVE money!
So the question is, do you your best to conserve electricity?
