Review Baby its Cold Outside by Susan May Warren

Sometimes it is hard for me to get excited about books that take place in certain eras. This was one of them. I was really excited that it was a Christmas novel and I have never passed up the chance to read a Christmas themed book. I was a little worried about the timeline. Sometimes certain historical events can create more of a problem in a novel rather than add to it.

Often many writers want to throw those types of subjects in there because they think it will add to the attraction of the book to other audience members they otherwise would not get to read their material. Thankfully this was not the case with “Baby Its Cold Outside.” Warren made sure those historical events did not overpower the story, or the characters.

Dottie Morgan, town librarian, also town grump. It’s freezing, and it’s almost Christmas. She has no desire to share her home, or her heart, with her unwelcomed house guests. Dottie lost the person she loved most in the world, her son Nelson, in World War II. Her world has never been kind or loving since.

Gordon, Dottie’s next door neighbor and real true love.

Jake, somewhat of a friend to Violet, more of a friend to who she thinks she loves, Alex. Alex, the man Violet was writing to during the war. Had fallen in love with, only to find he had passes. Instead of Alex showing up to whisk her away, she got Jake. Jake, full of secrets.

Violet, just trying to get the town star from Dottie. Has enough to deal with in her life.

All of these people, stranded in Dottie’s house during the blizzard of the century.

A little boy lost. Found, almost frozen to death.

Each, a tale to tell. Each brought together for a purpose. The purpose of family, forgiveness and love.

A must have book to curl up with during the season!

About the book: Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Hope finds the hopeless when a storm hits.

It's Christmas weekend 1949, and despite the threat of a storm, the townspeople of Frost are determined to continue their holiday traditions, if only as a means to forget the war that they had all just suffered through. But the suffering hasn't ended for Dottie Morgan who lost her only son in the war. She's preparing to wallow in her isolation for the weekend, when Violet, nearly a spinster at age 29, dares to make a request that will force Dottie to publicly revive the memory of her dead son.

When a storm traps the two women at home with a strange young man who has an unbelievable confession and a neighbor with more to do with Violet's past than she would like, no one can predict how this Christmas will give them all a second chance.
