I just found out there was other who met the same problem as I write in previous post. After some bad experiences, now I only install AVG 8 for the only anti virus and anti spyware in my notebook and one addtional protection ie: COMODO Firewall PRO 3.0 for replacing default windows firewall which is not recommended as told by other experts and geeks around the web. Actually AVG 8 is very easy to install, setup and maintain. But for COMODO you must be careful with its Defense+ because it is a little bit intrusive and chatty to protect your system processes and resources as well as files on your hard drives so that it will steal the time and recommended only for Core 2 Duo with 1G up memory. Also the setting is not as easy as AVG. If you don't want to mess you up with Defense+, just unselect it during installation setup to disable this feature and only to use its firewall. One more powerful software to have, ie: HijackThis, to check your system against whatever suspicious.... See my posts in http://rdy888.blogspot.com
AVG installation is straightforward. You just follow the instructions during installation and setup. But there are 2 notes to highlight as below:
- Select "All Users" for installation on your PC.
- Disable / Unselect LinkScanner: because it runs really slow. you'd better replace it with McAfee SiteAdvisor. Do not forget to un-tick all the selection at Advance Setting - LinkScanner Setting
- Disable Update Manager (ie: disable automatic update for whether virus database or program update), it will be much better if you regularly update all AVG components manually with just one click. It is under your full control and won't bog your PC down. Also do not forget to scan all files on the computer once a day, better after updating.
- Because it is free for home user, the manual or help is on the web: click here.
- Other settings at Tools - Advanced Settings are very intuitive and understandable. I keep all to default except 2 items above and the items below
- Limit virus vault size to 1% - if more than 1% automatic deletion
- Scan settings: activate all by tick all the selections except Scan Infectable Files Only
- Set additional scan reports: tick all the selections
- Tick all the resident shield settings
- Select scan all files and always scan files without extension
- Others are kept to default
- For e-mail scanner setting, it is not as easy as the setup explained above. I will cover this later in my post in my other blog. So you can check there later
- Just a note: remove all unnecessary toolbars in your browser. Check it with HijackThis but be careful!
That's all for brief steps to AVG8 easy setup. Goodluck! I might miss something between the lines so that any comments / suggestions, please welcome...

I still think that AVG is one of the best free antiviruses around, even thou I do not like their tricks to stir their users switching to the paid version.
