A rare species of butterfly called Silvery Blue Meadow Paangi found in the Valley in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India.

Manifold butterfly Silvery Meadow Blue (Polyommatus Florence) are usually found in areas with an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level and outside the forest area during July. Similarly, as quoted by The Hindu, Friday (24/12/2010).

“Butterflies are, first discovered in the area of high-Pakistan and Afghanistan, are now found in Pangi Valley for the first time,” said Avtar Kaur Sidhu, Officer-In-Charge of the High Altitude Regional Centre of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) , in Solan.

The team of scientists ZSI consists of Sidhu, Indu Sharma, Bindu L, Kamal Sahni and Uttam Saikia, conducted a survey of the valley late last year and discovered new species of moths, butterflies and grasshoppers.

“The discovery of the butterfly Silvery Meadow Blue indicate the health of the habitat of the valley, as the insect is one indicator,” Sidhu added.
