Plants that volunteer in odd places (reply) :: Member’s Gallery

By ryan  in  Plants & Gardening

Author: Karen B Posted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 6:13 pm (GMT 0) What a treat! We had a mallow growing in a crack in the sidewalk by the street this summer. There were half a dozen flowers on a plant that was barely 5 inches tall. When I went out to take a picture of it, someone had run over it with a bike or stepped on it. It is still growing but not enough blooms to make it picture worthy._____________ ____Take care of the planet Earth – it is the only known planet with CHOCOLATE!   read more

As promised, Scottish wedding photos. Lots of them! (reply) :: Member’s Gallery

By ryan  in  Plants & Gardening

Author: EJ Posted: Thu Nov 19, 2009 6:28 pm (GMT 0) Thanks everyone. I do have more pics of the castle and Abbey, so maybe I will post a few more. Yes Cuatro, I did see the orbs. Hubby took lots of pics of Jessica and I, and they were all covered, some almost completely! I have always jokingly called them ghosts, and the castle is apparently haunted so who knows. I like to think if it is anyone, it is recently departed family who have come along for the ride. _________________Che ck out my blog http://allotmentnews. blogspot.com/   read more

Novembers Hectic Schedule

By ryan  in  Plants & Gardening

Well half way through November and still much to do. Working on the holiday lighting and there is a need to get this done before bad weather sets in. One of the trucks needs to go in for a recall notice and the two tractors annual maintenance. Have to get the road salt order placed and be sure to get the calcium chloride standing order set up. Next week the holiday decorations arrive and hopefully they will be up in time before we start to get snow. Busy as this seems we still have routine maintenance to attend to as well.   read more

GBBD November 2009

By ryan  in  Plants & Gardening

The miniature roses in the front door bed are having a little bloom fest. This unknown pink mini was given to me years ago by my good friend. Chater’s Double hollyhock has bloomed off and on for months and the cooler November weather isn’t a deterrent at all. Lavandula pinnata buchii has likewise bloomed for months…actuall it’s been blooming for over a year. Last winter it shared the warmth from the lights I had strung up to protect the Meyer lemon in the pot behind it. That was enough to keep it blooming all winter. I know that there is a bit of negative thinking about mums   read more

Great Weather For Fall Cleanup

By ryan  in  Plants & Gardening

The weather has been great all week in Chicago for gardeners to get out and do some fall cleanup. the weather has been averaging about 10 degrees above normal and is a great boost over earlier this fall. We have cut back all the perennials in one of the parking lots and cleaned the beds we will continue on to the big parking lot next week and also start on the holiday lighting. It takes some time to get all the lights up but it is part of the holiday season. We received our newest purchase in on Friday. A Case 450 Skid loader with snow bucket, snow pusher, fork lift set, and material bucket.   read more
