Dexter Season 2 Finale Review (Spoilers)

Although it officially airs on December 16th 2007, I just got the final Workprint of Dexter Season 2 finale. It’s a 2 hour, really long and totally awesome episode of America’s Favorite Serial Killer.

So what’s “Dexter”? It’s a TV show from Showtime. No, it’s not about the boy that built his own lab. It’s about a totally messed up person with right intentions and his name is Dexter. When he was roughly couple of years old, his mother got slaughtered with a chainsaw in front of him. He was then left to die in a container with his mom’s blood, covered couple of inches in it for several days. Then Detective Morgan discovered him and adopted. Early on in his childhood Dexter started discovering that he enjoys – and needs – to kill. He started off with small animals, and then went to bigger things. Being protective, his foster father taught him everything he needed to know, or the so called “code”. This “code” basically taught Dexter to not get caught and use his maniac needs for the greater good.

With this knowledge, Dexter works in the forensics department of the FBI. He’s the blood expert. And he has access to documents that let him track down killers who got away clean through the justice system. While this seems like a dumb concept, it’s really one of the greatest shows ever. This is because we actually go into the mind of a killer, a maniac that needs to kill and has to control his urges.

Minor spoilers:

In Season 1 we get to “meet” Dexter as he deals with his victims. He uses his own special technique with lots of tape and butcher inventory. After killing a person, he slices him up in pieces and dumps in the Miami bay.

He then starts seeing resemblance to his past when he is assigned to investigate murders of the Ice Truck Killer, who freezes his victims and cuts them in little pieces. The places where that killer dumps the bodies refer to Dexter’s past. Upon further story development, Dexter’s foster sister Debra gets engaged with an odd little fellow who in the end turns out to be Dex’s brother. He was also there when their mom got killed, but for some reason Detective Morgan didn’t take him, and that would piss anyone off. So Dex’s brother is also a killer and he wanted them both to kill Debra. But Dex killed his brother instead. End of season 1.

It was a 12 episode season with an incredibly well told plot. It was just superb on how everything evolved. The acting, the production values – everything was top notch.
Major spoilers about Season 2 and the finale.

Season 2 kicks off with some scuba-divers accidently stumbling upon the underwater graveyard of Dexter. It’s then that Dexter’s coworker – agent Doakes – starts smelling something funny about Dexter. And oddly enough, Dexter’s girlfriend – yes, he has one – Rita, wants Dex to go into rehab (as Dex told her he has an addiction). In rehab he meets a girl named Lila. She is recovering from something that’s just as messed up as Dex’s addiction. They supposedly fall in love with each other, have sex and whatnot. She wants Dexter to fight his addiction and accept who he is.
This is when Dex’s character starts to evolve throughout the whole season. He questions his father’s code, tries to fight his need to kill, questions his relationship with Rita and much more.

Dexter is really all about character development. It really is that deep, if you’ve watched Lost – and enjoyed it – you’ll definitely fall in love with the serial psychopath maniac Dexter.
The Finale Review

So the finale consists of 2 episodes:
Dexter S02E11 (Left Turn Ahead)
Dexter S02E12 (The British Invasion)
And you know what? They’re both totally awesome. You get a 2 hour movie here, that’s deep, full of plot development and is an overall superb experience.

TOTALLY MAJOR SPOILERS!
Dexter realizes that he was the cause of his dad’s death. This puts him to question on whether or not he should turn himself in and not frame Doakes. So these two hours are based around the question – Does this world need me? And after Doakes says that Dexter’s urge is spreading and will eventually hurt the ones he loves, Dex is very undetermined. Also, Lila comes in. She frames detective Batista into drugging and raping her in order to get back at Dexter. Thus, she needs to go. Debra threatens Lila into giving her to the migration authorities and tells her to leave. And Lila snoops around Dex’s minivan, finds his GPS and goes to the last destination. That’s where Doakes is being kept. At that time the FBI finds Doakes rental car. Dexter realizes he needs to get to that cabin asap, but upon getting there the FBI have already beaten him to it. And so did Lila – the whole place blew up. She pretty much saved him. They meet up, snuggle, and agree on leaving town together. Though Dexter has other plans and wants to kill her. He waits for Lila at her flat, but Debra comes in to checkout whether she left or not. This puts Dex in an awkward position, Lila realizes he doesn’t want to go with her and leaves. She then tries to murder him and Rita’s kids. Back luck. Finale – Lila is killed by Dexter in Paris.

SPOILERS END HERE.

All in all, it’s an awesome finale with Dexter struggling between his two halfs – one that wants to give himself in, and the other that wants to live and kill. It is a happy ending though, and I will sure tune in to Season 3! Gotta love Dexter.

Resistance 2 E3 Gameplay. Good Quality

I've seen big monsters in games before but nothing was as big as the monster in Resistance 2. If you're a fan of resistance then you'll definitely like the sequel.

Fallout 3 Screenshots

The legendary Fallout is coming back. Here are some screenshots of the game. The main difference from the 2 previous versions is fallout 3 is going to be 3D and in first person. I'm not sure how this will effect the gameplay I'd like it to remain an RPG but I'm still very happy that the 3rd part is coming out, 3D or not.

oh come on...it was not that good...the plot twists in the last 4-5 episodes were not as original and well conceived as the dexter most of us loved. This show is in danger of turning into just another common tv show. Is it all going to be about milking the cow all over again

Anyone accusing those Dexter episodes of being "common", hasn't watched CBS lately. And while agree that there was some degree of predictability to it, there's only a certain amount of plotting that you can do without doing that.

The episodes were solid. The end didn't leave the bad taste that I had been fearing since the beginning of the Bay-Harbour Butcher arc and I can't wait for next year

In this day and age WE VIEWERS have become sophisticated enough to figure out what comes next. Most television is predictable because really we've practically seen it all. BUT the writers of Dexter are prepared for this. So even though we have a very good idea as to what comes next, we are completely surprised by the series of events it takes to get there. I tip my hat to the writers of Dexter! They understand the sophisticated viewer and manage to please. I can't wait for season 3 and I'm waiting to see what HBO is going to come up with to compete
