I got a question from one of the blog reader with request to clarify the need for the thumbs.db files, which could be found in all directories of the hard drive, where pictures are present. Reader complained that he is annoyed by these unneeded files, and he is deleted them all the time, but they always come back. So, why do our computer need these files, and can we get rid of them?Thumbs.db is a cache file, collecting data on the thumbnail pictures in a directory, where it is located. The file can significantly speed up the showing of thumbnails when you are viewing a folder in Thumbnail view. However,
Sometimes, we are so used to some of the programs we get in the standard Windows package, that we do not challenge them. Do you use WordPad? Probably, not, because it’s functionality is lacking many important functions. Jarte fills the gap. It is a significantly enhanced word processor using Window’s built-in word processing engine. The Jarte Processor is able to support regular text files (TXT), Rich Text Format (RTF), MS Word (DOC) and MS Word 2007 (DOCX) file formats. Embedded features include tabbed document interface for easy access to your open documents, spell checking capabilities

I have no special computer related education. It is my hobby. In the office, I usually deal with my co-workers PC's before they turn to IT Department. I also fix customer computers, when it is doable and does not require a lot of time and efforts. Otherwise, I will just prepare a new PC for them. Anyway, I feel real good, when I can revive the PC, or at least restore data from a dead one.
My husband needs you! lol
he has an exterior hard drive that is dead and he had a lot of work there. But it's too expensive to restore the data. Someone told him that it woud have to go to a "white" room and it would be more or less 500 euros for that..

Everything depends on the current status of the HDD. If, for example, there is a mechanical failure, or the head "stick" to the disk, the chances of data recovery without HDD opening are prettu slim. I remember that once I suceeded to restore HDD operations for 1/2 hour after placing it into freezer, but it was enough to copy the most valuable customer data. If you cannot revive the HDD through the external enclosure and special software, the only way is to go for professional help. We have a clean room, but it is not clean enough to open there HDD. Besides, you need spare parts to replace broken. Hard Drive is a fine device, and I am not sure that I will be able to assembly one properly, even thou I have seen how it is done at my customers sites (we work with all HDD manufacturers - Seagate, WD, Hitachi, etc.)
