Most Expensive Painting Ever : The Card Players for more than $250 million
One of Paul Cezanne’s best-loved paintings has sold for £160 million, the highest price ever paid for a work of art.The Card Players, one in a series of five works depicting French peasants playing cards, was bought by the Gulf kingdom of Qatar. The ruling royal family beat two of the world’s top art dealers to win the masterpiece.Qatar has purchased a Paul Cézanne painting, The Card Players, for more than $250 million. The deal, for the post-impressionist masterpiece sets the highest price ever paid for a work of art.The largest version, painted between the years 1890-1892 is owned and displayed by the Barnes Foundation museum in Merion, Pennsylvania.
