Mom’s Birthday at Dondi and Elizabeth1
I was supposed to cook a delectable recipe for my mom’s birthday today. But she called and said she would rather treat us family out for dinner.
We didn’t know yet which restaurant to go. It wasn’t planned and the choice which particular retaurant to go must be of the majority of us five members. Nonetheless, it was the youngest sibling’s suggestion that brought us to the final choice. He suggested to go to a seafood restaurant. This was where we arrived:
The restaurant wasn’t what I had expected when I first stepped in. I expected to be some kind of a classy seafood restaurant where you don’t only enjoy the food but also the ambiance and the service as well.
To me the place was just ordinary. It was the kind of place that you hangout in college during breaks: a canteen. Despite judging the book by its cover I thought I have to figure out yet what the restaurant has in store for our dinner.
There wasn’t any menu in the house. The ushers let us choose from different kinds of packed raw seafood from the large freezer. So we picked our choices. I thought since the place and the ambiance didn’t meet my expectations, I hoped for the food to be some sort of a consolation.
And it didn’t disappoint me.
The Clam Soup was delightful. The meat was fresh, soup spicy and gratifying.
The Tuna Bagaybay, or what we call “itlog ng lalakeng bariles” (male tuna’s eggs). It was very tender and oily, spicy and tasty. You can taste the freshness of the eggs and the mouth-watering taste of the sauce.
Same with the Tuna Panga. Meat was juicy, fresh taste and savory. The diner (my brother) even couldn’t wait for the blogger to capture first without touching it. hehe. Because it was tempting or, of course, everybody was hungry. hehehe:-)
The Malasugi Kinilaw was the darling of the night. Apart from the fact it was my most favorite Kinilaw of all, the preparation and the mixing of the ingredients are exquisite, enjoyable to devour. I think I consumed most of it. hehe.:-)
It was a great dinner. I recommend this to all seafood lovers and to all those who want to explore the restaurants in Davao. Don’t mind the ambiance. When you get to taste their food, you will forget everything else. hehe.:-) A good restaurant for a typical Filipino family, especially for mothers birthdays.
Happy Birthday Mama.
