Mahatma Gandhi my idol
All Indians recognize Mahatma Gandhi as a Political and spiritual leader. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi Mahatma commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi was a barrister. He was born on 2nd October and this is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti. It is also referred to as international day of non violence.
He was born to a poor family. At the age of 13 he was married to Kasturbai who was 14 at that time. He was a man who believed in non-violence or ahimsa. Mahatma Gandhi started a movement called Satyagraha. He also led to the quit India civil disobedience movement.
He only wore a dhoti and shawl and used a charkha. He used the most ordinary clothes and ate ordinary vegetarian food. During his life time he went to jail a number of times but this did not make him forget his mission of freeing foreigners from India.
He even opposed racism. On 30 January 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was shot when was in a prayer meeting. He was 78 years then. Nathuram Godse was the person. When he died the last words taken by him were Hey Ram, which means Oh Lord. The principals followed by Mahatma Gandhi were as follows:
Truth: Gandhi was a symbol of truth. He believed that one can win any battle by the means of truth
Non violence: This means that he strongly believed that violence shows one's weakness but non violence help a person to think and take a decision
He used to always say:
"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall — think of it, always."
"What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy?"
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
"There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for."
