He penned the Dhoom hit series as well as Mani Ratnam's Guru. But with Yash Raj's Tashan, Vijay Krishna Acharya has substituted the pen for a camera. The film didn't do too well, and Victor -- as Vijay is better known as -- says, "Some people liked it and some people didn't. I more or less expected the reaction because if you try some thing out of the box, it tends to draw mixed reactions." Patcy N got him to describe the most-talked about scenes in the film. The car crash sceneWhat the scene is about: This is the opening scene, where a bright red car is seen in the middle of nowhere. All of a sudden, the car loses control and falls off a cliff.Victor says: The opening is crucial to the film's style and narration. Shooting it was tough, as it was a VFX scene -- a scene where people directly address the camera. It also introduces Jimmy (Saif Ali Khan).2. Bhaiyyaji's Deewar scene What the scene is about: The scene shows Bhaiyyaji (Anil), who learns to speak English. He shows off by enacting a scene from Amitabh Bachchan's Deewar. Victor says: This is one scene which we enjoyed writing and enacting. It starts off with Anil Kapoor laughing, and ends with him in tears. I have seen the audience chuckling over this scene, which also shows Bhaiyaji's darker side. We rehearsed a lot for this scenThe bikini sceneWhat the scene is about: Kareena Kapoor takes a dip in the river and comes out in a sexy lime green bikini.Victor says: It is an introduction for a girl, whom you have seen in salwar kameez so far. Starting off in traditional wear, you gradually see her celebrating her edginess. I just wanted people to know that she can be attractive and dangerous.4. Boat scene where Bachchan Pandey (Akshay Kumar) realises that Pooja (Kareena) is his childhood friendWhat the scene is about: Akshay and Kareena are on a boat in the middle of a pond. Akhsay enjoys a drink while Kareena serves him some crispies.Victor says: To me, this scene is pivotal, as it reveals Bachchan Pandey's positive side -- his innocence. The film gets a soul because of Bachchan's flashback. This scene, I feel, elevates the film from being just an entertainer. It is inspired by Manmohan Desai's lost and found formula, plus Vijay Anand's Johny Mera Naam. The climaxWhat the scene is about: The climax shows the four stars fighting with and for each other. The scene involves a lot of action, with explosives and fighting.Victor says: As climaxes go, this one is very lengthy -- at 11 minutes -- which is roughly the same as that of the Dhoom series. We knew it would probably be bordered on the excessive but I wanted it that way.For example, there is no way the three characters could survive a bomb explosion after the car crashes into the room and sets it off. But they make it out alive. As an audience, I am rooting for them and I want to see them alive. But I don't think it is real at all. |
