A girl, who is a woman and mother now was held in a secret cellar by he father for 24 years. During that time she was raped and gave birth 7 times. Elisabeth Fritzl, who is now 42 has been drugged and handcuffed after being lured to the basement of their home when she was 18.

This happened in Amstetten, 80 miles west of Vienna, Austria.

The three children kept with Miss Fritzl, aged 19 and 18, and 5 - were all fed and clothed by her father but were never allowed out. The other three 12 to 16, led a seemingly normal life with Mr Fritzl and his wife Rosemarie, 67 upstairs in their home.

Rosemarie Fritzl claims to have no knowledge of what has been going on in her house all these years.

When Elisabeth disappeared her parents reported her missing, but a month later they have received a letter from her asking them to stop searching.

The case became known when one of the children became ill and had to be taken to the hospital. Then Mr Fritzl brought Miss Fritzl and her remaining two children out of the dungeon, telling his wife that their "missing" daughter had chosen to return home.
