In Irkutsk, on December 22 (by news agency Itar-Tass) .. One dead body has been found in the car that sank under the ice surface of Lake Baikal, a source at the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s regional department told Itar-Tass. On December 14, four people in a VAZ car left the village of Sarma for the bay of Nadezhda across the bay of Muhor. Two adult men and two young men aged 15 and 16 were in the car. A day later they did not return home as they were expected. Relatives asked rescuers for help. Specialists of the Baikal rescue and search team examined the bank line along the supposed route, but they could not examine the bay area during the first day of the search, as the ice cover was not higher than two centimetres. The search continued only when the ice was as thick as ten centimetres. The car was found under an unfrozen patch in the ice several tens of metres from the bank at the depth of nine metres. When divers with special equipment raised the car onto the surface, one body was found inside. It was a 47-year-old man. The search for the driver and the youths continued. |
