I just read statistical data, when about 60% of American kids could not say who won in WWII.
But, maybe it is not so terrible? May be, it is just different perspectives? Once I came to USA, I got a nice lesson from my fellow-coworker. All the people raised in the Soviet Union were preoccupied with impression that WWII and Germany-Russia war is the same. Whe in small talk I mentioned WWII, my coworker referred: "Yes, I heard that it was a battle in Russia as well..." I was shoked: "What do you mean as well? It was the center of the war." "For me, the center of the war was in Philippinnes, when locals were fighting for Japanese". My first reaction was: "How can you compare?", but I stopped and started thinking, how much I know about this part of the conflict? Nothing. How much do you know, what is going on in Kenia, Dalfur, Chechnia now?
Than, so what that somebody does not know the first Hitler name?
The question is in Dutch - the Nederlands - which actually makes is more sad because this was one of the first countries Adolf rushed through - and surpressed. So they ought to remember a little bit about it...
(in Danish the question would have been: Hvad var Hitlers fornavn? It's close but not the same)
Adolf Hitler (20 April 1889 – 30 April 1945) was an Austrian who led the National Socialist German Workers Party. He became Chancellor of Germany in 1933 and Führer in 1934, combining the offices of President and Chancellor into one using the power vested in him by the Enabling Act. He ruled until his suicide in 1945.
