Each January a small town in in Gangwon Province in South Korea hosts an ice fishing festival which attracts thousands of people. The main attraction is the the sancheoneo.
Sancheonea is a fresh water trout or cherry salmon which inhabits pure mountain streams of Northeast Asia. Not only this is a beautiful fish but it's also very tasty with a pleasing firmness and nutty, almost sweet taste.
The Hwacheongang River the site of the festival tends to freeze in winter, but if it doesn't the festival organizers will freeze it for the duration of the festival.
