If you could have any job...
If I could have any job I would take a union job. What a deal. I would love to work at a place where my employment tenure does not rely directly on performance but whether or not I am doing exactly what's defined by the contract and nothing more. I would love to work for a place where I can pay someone else to argue how much I should and should not work and watch me get paid more and pay more back in at the same time.
Hey, if you get sick of working you can get together and quit your job without quitting! Strike! The adult temper tantrum. It's like a mini vacation, except you'd have to be careful, because walking up and down a street carrying a heavy sign may be more work than I would do on a regular day. Unless you work for the airlines, you are guaranteed a job always, I can just bitch about it rather than look for that higher paying job elsewhere.Who needs to focus on self improvement, developing beyond your means, and striving to succeed higher and higher to create demand for my services. Who needs to create a skill set, become proficient at it, and use that to compete in the world. Unions would be so much easier, I can focus on the job at hand, because that's all I would have to worry about, the same job, over and over for 40 years. They can never fire me. Heck, I could even get paid and free insurance even if I do leave. No stress because there would be no scrambling for promotions, skipping over people, the contracts keep that pecking order in check and the union reps can't have too many people advance too fast. We have to stay workin' men.I can stop reading and self training on new techniques, styles, etc... I can stop worrying about future technologies all the time because all I do it push a button, someone else will make sure I am equipped to do my job. Forced, mandatory break times no matter what recorded down to the second. When I get older I would have gained so much seniority I can bully everyone and no one can do a damn thing about it.Yup, that's the kind of job I would want....Sweet.This has been another Joe movement.Twitter - @joenobody
