I Shouldn’t be Blinded by my Dashboard
I logged in to WordPress today and saw there was an update needed. I decided to try the new “Updates” option in my dashboard. I had always had my host help me with updating until I learned how to do the updates manually. 1 My host recently told me of a new feature in WordPress. You can update it all very easily by going under “Updates” in my dashboard. I wanted to give it a try. So I did. It went great!
My problem however was with the result of the update. WordPress made changes to the dashboard. I was blinded by all of the white, just everywhere on the page. I could not stand to look at my own dashboard. I tried the Grey color scheme and the Blue color scheme. Both themes were like the same thing. They were too bright. I could not handle it.
I looked around the plugins hoping that maybe one could bring back the previous dashboard theme. There was no plugin like this. I did find a plugin that helped with the blinding colors. It is called DH Admin Themes. I decided to go with the very nice Sample Green color scheme. It came with a light gray background in place of the white. The gray-tinted teal color aligns the headers and sidebar links. The color scheme even separates the header bar 2 from the rest of the content on the page.
Personally, I do not like the new WordPress dashboard design or theme. The other theme used the same colors, but there were more places where the colors appeared, making it less blinding. All of that shear white cannot be good to one’s eyes. I am not using the plugin, which does help. I do think that maybe WordPress should reconsider their choice of designs.
What I feel is most upsetting to this update, is others are complaining also. Not a lot of people, but there are others whom are complaining. I feel this is a sad setting to put something like this in. WordPress is loved by many, very few have complaints. Lets not start getting complaints now. Am I wrong to feel this way?
I understand that some people do like the new dashboard look. That’s wonderful. The dashboard should be made for everyone to love. I think that WordPress could give us more options. Some others I have spoken too, feel the same way about this. I do hope that WordPress makes a change or gives us another option in our dashboard’s look. That’s all I and others ask for.
- Updating WordPress manually is so hard and time consuming! ↩
- If you have updated to version 3.2 you will see that the header, where it says your site name and “Howdy” to you, it’s white. The content of the page, where you edit posts and so forth, is also white. So it seems to have this pushing effect where it looks like the header and the content are all part of the same thing. The “help” links are very hard to see, if you even notice them. ↩
