How To Make Money With HubPages

HubPages is a revenue sharing site that will allow you to write articles and make money from those articles. This part is pretty easy to understand, but how is that you are making money online from HubPages and what can you expect?

Revenue Share

HubPages is very transparent about how much they share with you and how it works. Simply put, they share 60%. However, this isn’t really 60% of the revenue. Instead it is 60% of the impressions. For example, lets say your article has gotten 100 views and therefore 100 ad impressions. For 60% of the time those ads would be coming from your accounts and for the other 40% of the time they would be coming from HubPages ad accounts.

Different Ad Options

With HubPages you have the power to use whatever kinds of ads you want. You can turn them off altogether (though that wouldn’t make you any money) or you can choose which ads to put where.

  • Google AdSense. Google AdSense is by far the most common way people make money on revenue sharing sites. With HubPages you can elect to have a lot of Google ads or only a few.
  • Kontera. Kontera does contextual ads. This means that they highlight keywords found in your article and hook them to an ad box. The box then appears when you hover over the link with the mouse. Some people find them annoying, but they can increase your revenue.
  • Amazon Associates. At HubPages the Amazon Affiliates is actually a capsule. You can either use keywords or hand pick products to go on your hubs. You are then able to move that capsule around to break up your article or to place it in very visible locations.
  • eBay Affiliates. EBay works similar to Amazon. However, if you don’t already have an account then you aren’t able to sign up for one at this time.

Each of these four ad options are used to monetize your HubPages hubs. Adding other types of ads aren’t allowed including banners and links.

Directing Traffic to Other Locations

An indirect way to use HubPages to make money is to direct them to other locations. You can do this however, you have to make sure that you are following the rules. In some cases if you don’t follow the rules you may still be able to have those Hubs up and active for a long time and then one day you might find that they have been unpublished because they are overly promotional. It is best to stick to following the rules from the very beginning to make sure that you are avoiding the possibility of getting banned from HubPages.

  • Your Hub has to be about something. Writing a hub just to promote a site isn’t allowed. You actually need a topic and your hub has to add value to the community.
  • Limited links. You have have links on your Hubs, but you can only have two links to each domain. If you have more than that it will be flagged.
  • Linking to your blog is allowed, but affiliate links are not. You can link to you websites, your blogs, and even other revenue sharing sites as long as those links have something to do with the article that you are writing. However, you can not put affiliate links into your hub.

Making money online by writing articles for HubPages is definitely something you can do. You will get 60% of the ad impressions for Google Adsense, Kontera, Amazon, and eBay if you have an eBay account. However, you can also use HubPages to promote your writing in other locations, your blogs, and your websites for an increased way to make more money.
