Holiday Greetings & Building an Internet Business

The JadeDragon team has been hard at work this holiday season on building out niche sites and writing for Infobarrel. Yes, we took a little time off, but the cessation of normal business frees up time for online efforts. Websites don’t mind being worked on during Christmas Eve :)

We’ve also been visiting and reviewing a number of niche sites in an effort to pull the best ideas into current projects. See the lat few posts (just scroll through the posts using the arrows at the bottom of the page).

Today we’ll highlight one of our favorite e-commerce sites, Zenni Optical. Zenni focuses on cheap eyeglasses, so cheap that you can actually get holiday themed eyeglasses there.

Holiday Greetings & Building an Internet BusinessAt about $16 for the frames, its actually cheaper than a holiday themed tie.

And on the topic of ties, this one is similar to the tie JadeDragon wore for Christmas – after all it is important we acknowledge the real reason for the season today right? Sad but true.

But if you want to be more traditional, how much more traditional can you get with hard core Christmas glasses? You can cruise around Zenni’s site to uncover more unusual gems.

What can we learn from Zenni?

  • If you are going to sell products, throw in some really unusual ones. It works for stores like Macy’s and the Hudson’s Bay Company. It also works for Victoria’s Secret (think Million Dollar Bra). Weird and unusual offerings may not sell many copies but they build brand awareness and bring in potential customers to look. Those potential customers often end up buying something less outlandish.
  • Being unusual generate buzz. Buzz generates traffic. Traffic is good. Be unusual.
  • Be different by picking a niche and doing it well. Zenni focuses on low cost but quality. BMW focuses on luxury not price. Dominos Pizza is all about speed (it’s not the best pizza for sure). Decide what your focus is, and do it better than anyone else.

Happy Holidays and a Prosperous New Year Online!
