‘Flying People’ in New York Stun the Masses (VIDEO)Look…up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s….flying people?

New Yorkers were shocked this weekend when they saw what appeared to be people flying through the Gotham skies.

Actually, what they saw were elaborate radio-controlled planes made to look like people as part of a viral marketing push for this week’s new movie “Chronicle”.

The movie is about three high school students who learn that they have superpowers, including the ability to fly. To promote the film, the movie studio hired Thinkmodo, a company that specializes in creating viral marketing sensations.

The company first made national headlines with a video that seemed to show a man using an invention to hack into the video display screens in Times Square. It was later revealed to be a marketing stunt for the Bradley Cooper movie “Limitless“.

“The planes are highly sophisticated dacron/carbon fiber, battery-powered, radio-controlled units,” says James Percelay, the co-founder of Thinkmodo. The planes are “light and delicate as potato chips.”

These “flying people” are about six feet tall, but they weigh just four pounds. The aircraft were all built in a week, half the time it would normally take to construct them.
