Eurovision 2011: Jedward Reach Final For Ireland

The second semi-final of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest took place earlier today and ten more countries will join those who qualified from the first semi-final on Tuesday. Among those who will perform in Saturday’s Final are Jedward, the X-Factor rejects from Ireland. To many people, not a surprise, but here’s the lucky ten:

1. Estonia: Rockefeller Street by Getter Jaani (sings 8th in Final)
2. Romania: Change by Hotel FM (sings 17th in Final)
3. Moldova: So Lucky by Zdob si Zdub (sings 15th in Final)
4. Ireland: Lipstick by Jedward (sings 6th in Final)
5. Bosnia & Herzegovina: Love in Rewind by Dino Merlin (sings 2nd in Final)
6. Denmark: New Tomorrow by A Friend in London (sings 3rd in Final)
7. Austria: The Secret is Love by Nadine Beiler (sings 18th in Final)
8. Ukraine: Angels by Mika Newton (sings 23rd in Final)
9. Slovenia: Vanilla by Maja Keuc (sings 20th in Final)
10. Sweden: Popular by Eric Saade (sings 7th in Final)

Non qualifiers were The Netherlands, Belgium, Slovakia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Israel, Belarus and Latvia.

With so many strong Eurovision songs in this semi-final, it is no wonder that there were some surprises among the non-qualifiers. Some that seemed to have a chance of a place in the Final were Israel, but the returning Dana International’s Ding Dong (if you forgive the expression) failed to impress, as did the entries from Holland and Bulgaria.

So, now it on to the Final on Saturday. As I write, the Eurovision Song Contest Poll is a close run thing. Joint leaders are currently Sweden and Hungary with 9.7% of the votes, with the United Kingdom close behind with 9.1%. If you haven’t voted yet, be sure to register your vote.
