There are encouraging signs that the global economy is rebounding, but many are still charting an uncertain course in the changing economic landscape. The recession comes to a close, and there are huge opportunities for companies to emerge as market leader or a significant leader. As global competition increases companies need to bring new innovative products and services to market as quickly and cost effectively as possible. The rapid pace of global markets should make IT innovation on high priority for companies. As companies cope with a rapid data growth, the need to drive increased agility and cost has become one of EMC’s great challenges. For EMC- the leading IT infrastructure provider- the answer to that challenge is dynamic infrastructure. This could be only achieved through technological innovation; by acquiring companies EMC could accelerate its footprint on software solutions. Acquisition could also provide EMC’s customers with a truly global solutions experience.

That’s exactly the reason why Enterprise software giant EMC has acquired Greenplum software- a San Mateo California-based software company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but the acquisition is an all cash transaction. The acquisition of Greenplum software, which provides database software to some of the world’s top companies (which count NASDAQ in its client base), further extends EMC’s capabilities by allowing the company to offer the industry’s most comprehensive IT infrastructure, it’s a logical step in a corporate strategy, it will add complementary products to EMC’s offerings. The Greenplum software acquisition is the latest in the EMC’s acquisition lists. EMC opted to embark on an aggressive acquisition move, snatching companies everywhere. Starting in 2003, EMC acquired more than 30 companies over the next 4 years in order to add the range o f software and services its expanded market would need. The combination of the world class power of EMC and Greenplum software could results in unparalleled cost reduction and simplified management across the database and storage layer.
