Before you start to make your own candles, let me tell you
a little about the art of the candle. History has proven
that there have been some amazing types of candles made in
    the past.

The use of candles for light and heat is known to have
existed in ancient times. Over time there have been various
types of candles made from the very basic to more advanced
methods. They have been used as a source of light and for
heating, just as they are still used today. Perhaps in
today's lifestyle we do use more scented candles than were
    used in the past.

    The candle making craft

Today candle making is very a popular hobby. What is so
enjoyable as candle making as a hobby is that you can
create wonderful shapes and colors and also use different
fragrances to perfume the house. They make fabulous
presents because you can make them to suit your friend's
style, color and favorite fragrance. There is no limit to
the shapes, sizes, and colors you can make your candles in.

Candles at home have become very popular for the wonderful
aromas more than for their ability to produce light. Some
candles give off a popular perfume such as vanilla or
jasmine. Others smell like a chocolate cake or cinnamon
    rolls.

    Construction of a candle

The body of a candle is generally made of paraffin wax.
Paraffin wax is a natural wax that comes from plants.
Candles can also be made out of beeswax. Beeswax is also
considered a natural wax and is taken from honeybees. This
is the substance the bees use to construct their honeycombs.

A wick, made of cotton fibers that have been braided
together, is placed in the center of the wax before it
dries. The wick is very thin, but also strong. Different
wick materials and thickeness of wicks will determine how a
candle will burn. Thin wicks provide a small flame and
larger wicks will give a bigger flame.

    Starting your candle making

Simple projects are a good way to start your candle making
hobby. Candle making is quite a different hobby to most
others you have probably undertaken and for this reason it
is best to start slowly and surely. Starting with beginners
projects will give you the opportunity to discover what
works well with your set up and gives you the chance to
    make necessary changes.

Initially, work at implementing good safety habits and
melting your wax at the proper temperatures. The cooling
process also needs to be developed as it is at this stage
that you can alter the candles as well. The candle making
craft is no different than other hobbies and once you have
made a few and worked out what can go wrong you will find
that you will much more confident then you can start
experimenting and making your very own creations with
different colors, fragrances and mold shapes.

The candle making process is easy to follow if you take
your time and learn from your mistakes. One of the beauties
of homemade candles for presents is that you can make
different ones for each set of gifts. However, it is found
to be very enjoyable by those who have plenty of time to
take with the process and who enjoy creating things. Candle
making supplies aren't expensive so use the best you can.
This will also help ensure your candles form well and burn
    properly.

There is no doubt in my mind that once you have practiced
and mastered the art of the candle making craaft you will
go onto make some wonderful unique candles and you may not
even want to give them away or light them. Such is the art
    world!
