Every last Monday of May, the entire United States is celebrating the Memorial Day. It was previously recognized as the Decoration Day wherein the people of United States commemorate the military service personnel who died to their country. The very first Memorial Day was observed to honor the Union military who gave their lives during the American Civil War. It was then magnified to add those who died in the time of their duty in any war or military action after the World War I (WWI).
The nationwide commemoration occurs at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, Eastern Time. All throughout this day, people are visiting to the churchyards and memorials to offer their prayers and reminisce their soldiers. This is also a perfect time for gatherings and sport affairs as it was considered as the informal start of the summer season. In addition, many people are also holding associated events where political and community leaders are giving speeches to the community.
This year's Memorial Day falls on the 26th of May. Even though there are many military sectors like the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) are contesting to set its date on May 30, the observance will still go on this year. Different Very Important People including electoral candidates are expected to give their thoughts and emotions for this day through their privilege dialogues and gathering engagements.
A call for a true and sincere celebration of this day is resonating from our hearts and most especially from the family of these heroes. Let us halt for a while and relive the moments of our fellow countrymen who have undoubtedly given their lives to make us live. Our
veterans, although they have been unfettered from deaths during their service era should be also rendered with significance, affection and amity. Gone are the times of endless battle for them but the real fight to live have not been ended.
Make this day not just for the dead who have been heroes for their loved ones and the United States but also a day for all of us who are hoping for a peaceful and valuable humanity.
