Far from it, my personal belief (and if you are honest with yourself you will admit) that there is no such thing as FREE or EASY Money. Unfortunately, a lot of us succumb to those juicy, dubious ads of unlimited wealth and fall for their words and a few I know have lost a lot. At times I feel that the ones who have made wealth in schemes and scams are the ones that have tricked others to parting with theirs, since making money the ethical way is not easy. I too wish to be wealthy,but I would like to do it morally, and as the saying goes; "The Old Fashion Way, Earn It".

So to our main topic; using AdSense in developing a businesses for extra income. When you start a business your goals should be realistic and sensible, such that you are not disillusioned by unforeseen setbacks. AdSense allows one to start a business with minimal investment, basically nil. So what is your part of the bargain in this partnership with Google? You have to put up a website, give Google an area or areas to put up their ads on that site. In the most rudimentary form, that really is the partnership. You are the host to Google's advertising clients (from AdWords). A visitor on your site triggering any of those AdSense Ads present on your Website will generate an income in form of commission to you. For instance, if your site was all about baseball, then it would have ads related to that subject, perhaps an ad of a company selling Baseball Cards, or Hats etc. They certainly would not have an ad for Mountain Climbing.

If it finds that your website does not fit their specific criteria for AdSense ads they will not place any on your site, basically you will not qualify. So it is important to have a well setup site with quality content, not quantity. I have seen sites, which to most look pleasant to look at and seem interesting, but have been rejected by Google due to poor site content.

Once you have built up good content and qualify for AdSense, you have to continue to impress Google with new relative and interesting information on your site. All this though is not enough to generate income from your site. You have great content, AdSense ads are placed on the site, now you must have traffic. Without visitors you have no chance of making any money. The idea is to move up the ladder of search queries and get displayed as high as you can. It now becomes a viscous cycle, the more people visit your site, the more you get displayed on search queries, and of course the more visitors you get. With an increase in traffic, it is then natural that some of your visitors will click on the ads which means money in your pocket. A piece of advice here, just because you have great content does not mean you are done, you have to make your site SEO proof. More on this some other time. A warning: Do Not Click or Promote /Entice other to Click on Ads on your Website. You can be banned by Google for such actions.

In conclusion, yes you can make money on the net and with AdSense, but you have to set it up just right, and be prepared to constantly work on your site, improving it not only with content but with the right keywords and of course it must be pleasant to the eye and smooth to navigate. Most of all do not be afraid to try, and at first if you don't succeed, then modify and try again, and if you fail again, then read some more and try again. If 100 percent of those 100 visitors each click an ad, your profits would average around $20 per day. This averages out to be around $600 per month. Still not too bad, but a far cry from thousands per week.

You don't need some 20 to 50 dollar package to tell you how to do this...its really simple, and you wont get much more than this out of any of the packages for sale out there. Go to https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/ and click on "Sign Up Now." Follow the instructions, sign up for the account, wait for approval from Google. Once your AdSense account is approved, follow the instructions after logging in to get started. Answer a few questions from Google, tell them how you want ads to be displayed on your page, submit, and copy your HTML code provided by Google AdSense. Paste the code into your website. Ads will appear on your site, people click on the ads, you get paid. Its as simple as that.

Ok - so you've got a great content web site and you've decided to monetize it with Google AdSense. You place the AdSense Code on your web site and immediately start getting clicks.

Soon after, you decide to visit your account to see just how much money you've made. You get there to view your reports and then - Bamm! It hits you. Just what the heck do all those numbers mean anyway?

Well, worry not my fellow net entrepreneurs. Below is a quick breakdown of those numbers and what they mean in layman's terms.

Page Impressions

Your Page Impressions are simply the number of times your web pages are viewed. Of course, this number only refers to those pages that contain your code for AdSense.

Think of one impression as a display - every single time your web pages are displayed, your impressions go up. It's the same thing. In terms of money, the more impressions or displays you get, the higher the chance you have of making more money.

Clicks

This is the actual number of times that your ads are clicked upon. Thus, each time a visitor to your site clicks on one of your ads, it is recorded as a Click.

Every Page Impression you receive is an opportunity for one of your ads to get clicked. In terms of money, the more Clicks you get - the more money you can make with AdSense.

Page CTR

Your Page CTR refers to your web page's Click Through Rate. Your Page's CTR, or Click Through Rate, is the ratio of the number of Clicks you receive versus the number of your Page Impressions. The number is expressed in a percentage and is calculated by taking your Page Impressions and dividing them by your Clicks (# of Clicks / # of Page Impressions).

For example, if you have 2000 Page Impressions and received 400 Clicks, your Page CTR would be 20%. Now for you math wizards out there; once you have your CTR, you can pretty much figure out your Impressions and Clicks by using some simple mathematics.

Thus, you can figure out your Page Impressions by taking the number of Clicks and dividing it over your CTR (i.e.: # Clicks / CTR%). You can figure out your number of Clicks by taking your Page Impressions and multiplying it by your CTR (i.e.: # Impressions x CTR%).

Ok, moving on...

Page eCPM

This is where things start getting interesting.

Your Page eCPM refers to your Effective (the "e") Cost Per Thousand Impressions (the "CPM"). Yes, I know. "CPM" is not quite an accurate English acronym for "Cost Per Thousand Impressions". The reason is because the acronym uses the Latin for "Thousand"; i.e.: "MIL".

Anyway, Google defines your eCPM for AdSense as "...a useful way to compare revenue across different channels and advertising programs". I won't stray from that definition, however, there might be a better way for you to understand this number. Let me put it to you this way: basically, by the time you reach 1000 Page Impressions, you would have earned the amount stated in the eCPM. Got it?

You calculate the eCPM by taking your earnings and dividing it by the number of Page Impressions you receive in Thousands (i.e.: $Earnings / (Page Impressions / 1000))

To get a good understanding of your eCPM, allow me to illustrate how it's calculated.

Let's say you earned $250 and got 15,000 Page Impressions. Taking the 15,000 and dividing that by 1000 you get 15. Now, taking your $250 in earnings and dividing that by 15 you get $16.67. Thus, your eCPM is $16.67.

Now, remember earlier that I said that by the time you got 1000 Page Impressions you'd earn the amount in your eCPM. Well, if you do a little math, you'd see that for every 1000 impressions you received, you earned the amount in your eCPM ($16.67 x 15 = $250.05).

Earnings

Of all the numbers you'll see in your AdSense account, this by far, is the most fun and easiest to understand. Your Earnings are just that: what you've earned with AdSense. It's how much money you get to put in your pocket. Now, doesn't that sound nice?

But wait. We're not out of the wood just yet.

There is still one more number you need to know about that they don't show in your AdSense account: your Earnings Per Click.

Earnings Per Click

Your Earnings Per Click or EPC is simply the average amount of money you make per Click you receive. It's calculated by taking your Earnings and dividing it by the number of Clicks you get.

For example, if you earn $250 and you received a total of 500 Clicks, then your EPC would be $.50 per Click.
