Cricket is one of the popular outdoor game in UK, Africa, Asia and Australia. It becomes famous in the region where british company ruled for 10 or more years. Africa and asia being the only geographic areas where british ruled the land for more than 50 years naturally adopted to this game. Though cricket was famous even before 1990’s took popularity only after the introduction of 1 day matches in world cup tournaments. Prior to that matches used to be 5 days or 3 days in some placed. But later 5 days test mathces and 50 overs each -1 day format was brought up to this game.

All the world cup matches played so far with 50 overs limit, with few exceptions before 1987 there used to be 60 overs match. But later they trim it down to 50 overs. If we start to look at the history of world cricket then we can say that aussies have won the most of the world cup tournaments. Only thing that i found weird about world cup is that only england who brought this game to life is yet to win 50 over world cup tournament.

  • 1975- West Indies
  • 1979 - West Indies
  • 1983 - India
  • 1987 - Australia
  • 1992- Pakistan
  • 1996 - Sri lanka
  • 1999 - Australia
  • 2003 - Australia
  • 2007 - Australia

This is timeline of world cup so far and there is going to be another world cup in 2011. Not sure how to predict world cup winner this time because almost every nation is playing good and bad innings because of lack of senior players in team. Chances are there that england is likely to win their first WC title in 2011. Who knows ?
